McCartney, Mills to Split
Wednesday, May 17, 2006

LONDON — Former Beatle Paul McCartney said Wednesday he is separating from his wife, Heather Mills McCartney, after nearly four years of marriage.

A statement issued by the McCartney and his second wife said they had "found it increasingly difficult to maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives."

The brief statement said that "with sadness" the couple agreed to "go our separate ways" but said the parting was "amicable."

He married Mills in June 2002, four years after his former wife, Linda McCartney, died of breast cancer. McCartney and Mills had a daughter in October 2003.

What constant intrusion in their private lives, since they got married and had the baby you hear nothing about them (at least not here in the states, maybe in England it is different)

I think there was way more intrusion when Linda was still alive.

:guilty: I hope they can work it out.... what a shame....

What a shame. Maybe the demands of his performing schedule has gotten too much for her or maybe she wanted him to retire and he didn't. Who knows... Anyway, hope this doesn't alter any touring plans. We've seen him the last two times he's been on tour. Fantastic concert. We're hoping to see him again and take DD.

I'll console him. He may be 60 something but he's still hot. And rich. My dream man.

I blame her.

;)

Seriously, I hope this isn't the end for them. I like happy endings.

That is very unfortunate, but not surprising. I hope that they can remain friendly for the sale of their child.

How much are they asking for her? Will they split the proceeds?? :confused3

intrusion would be their middle names....

I'm sorry, I'm still a wee bit bitter about the whole seal hunters deal in Newfoundland...

Im still sorry they split.

Wow, I'll bet the tabloids are just getting started - especially if it's true that there was no pre-nup.

I know lots of folks make it work, but I could never be married to someone that wasn't pretty close to me in age.

Feel pretty bad about them separating, but it doesn't surprise me. :sad2:
I did remember many reports about 4 or 5 yrs. ago when they were engaged or married (can't remember), that one of them threw the engagement ring out of a hotel window and they were arguing? Not sure if it was true or not.
Also, that Heather Mills had no clue what his music was back in the day of the Beatles and with Wings?? This was reported when they got engaged.
That was hard to understand, that she didn't know his music??

Paul must have been lonely and saw a nice, pretty blonde tall woman that reminded him so much of Linda (with the activist Heather is, and Linda was, too). I guess that just wasn't enough to keep this marriage going for him and Heather. My opinion is he was looking for another Linda, thinking he could find Linda in Heather Mills. I guess Paul did not or wanted to deny Heather's temperment, her personality.

I can't see how the media can be to blame for the separation? There's hardly anything here about them in the states, unless in England, they are all over them?? :confused3
Hope they can get the marriage counseling they need. :)

I don't get it. He's a BEATLE; he's been world-famous for over 40 years; you'd think he'd be used to intrusions into his private life.

I think there's more to the story.

We saw him in concert in Des Moines last fall. He was looking forward to his young daughter's 2nd birthday the following day . . .

The tabloid stories the last few weeks have focused on the supposed difficulty SHE was having being married to a Beatle, not the other way round.

I think it is more of Heather's issue of the intrusion of the media than Paul. AOL had an article this morning that said on Heather Mill's website, there were a lot of hateful things written from regular people and hte media, according to Heather. The article said that Heather's sister had to fight back with the media. :confused3

Oh well,I could tell the marriage was doomed from the start with all the reports of Heather not knowing Paul's music and the ring throwing incident, etc.

I feel sad for the kid & Paul. He was duped by a gold digger.

I don't think she is a gold digger - just in WAY over her head. And he had become accustomed to being married to a grown-up.

Well I'm sure this marriage had a lot of issues. Age difference, celebrity, step-children, 2 career couple, small child...any one of those is enough to cause a lot of marital stress, much less all of them together.

I had the tremendous luck and honor to meet Paul & Linda McCartney for about 30 seconds back in 1992. I was working at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Tucson, Arizona, when they came into the store. I thought I was going to pass out! I am such a huge Beatle fan.

The area of the store that I was in charge of included cookbooks, and by some stroke of luck, my current display was devoted to vegetarian cooking, and featured Linda McCartney's cookbook.

They seemed like a very happy couple, I imagine it is not easy to follow in the footsteps of a long and happy marriage.

Yes. I had the honor of meeting them in 1976. Like yours, it didn't last long - maybe 5 or 10 minutes for me, but still a defining moment. She would indeed be a tough act to follow!
