I was reading on allearsnet that the Patina Group was taking over Italy's rest in Epcot Sept. 1. Does anyone know anything about their restaurants?

There are several threads here on the DISboards already discussing this (including THIS thread and THIS thread). In a nutshell, Patina Group owns the Italian restaurant at Disneyland. FWIR, it's considered, in general, to be not much better than Alfredo's was.

We dined at Naples in DTD at DL a little over a year ago. Our server was excellent.

The food was good as best I recall but we had a very uncomfortable meal as the door was open and there was a very cold breeze that hit us. We asked several times for the door to be closed. It was a for a short time I think but then opened right back up. I ate with my jacket on, hood up and cold food due to the breeze. We talked to the manager on duty as we left and he said it was Disney policy for the doors to be left open at all times. Don't know if that is true but it was not good customer service in my opinion. I hope our experience was a reflection on this particular manager rather than of the company in general. We did not return to Naples when we were at DL this year but will certainly give the WDW version a try. We were not fans of Alfredos due to horrendous service.

Hey,

Spoke with CM this morning, she said that after Alfredos closes it will take about a year before it reopens under Patina.

I can't wait to try it but it will have to wait for the next trip!

I think that we ran into that same manager at Naples over Spring Break last year!
Although having PS's, on a not very crowded night, our party of 6 was seated outside, on a cold and breezy night. When we asked to be inside, they told us it would be an hour wait - mind you, less than half the table were filled! The food wasn't bad, but the service was HORRIBLE!! After asking for water for half an hour, we finally went to the wait station and filled our own glasses! We asked tfor umbrellas to ward off the sprinkles, we asked for a heater, as our kids were freezing - all to no avail! It got to the point where it was just ridiculous and funny! When we had the *gall* to leave a *miserly* 10% tip, the manager actually confronted us about ripping off his employee!
Let's hope that they bring in some new, experienced management for Alfredo's!

NannyPooh, I wonder if indeed it was the same manager! Let's hope he didn't request a transfer to WDW.;)

But I will say your experience trumps ours! At least we had a good server.

That's pretty ridiculous. How could they leave a prime dining establishment (location wise) closed for that long? I know that there's quite a few table service restaurants in Epcot, but since they're all busy, taking one out of the equation makes ADRs even HARDER to get.

Makes sense, I guess, given that they're planning on adding a counter, but it does directly contradict earlier rumors of a short turnover.

Now I am really confused (like that is a new thing!):confused3 . I thought that the resturant was still going to be open with short periods of refurb. while they are changing owners? Does anybody know what is going on with this!? I need to make my ADR's May 1 and I really want to do something Italian and since my dh hates Mama Melrose this is really our only option.

The counter needs ready-access to the walkway and the kitchen. That might require reconstructing the restaurant with the kitchen moved from the back to the side. There are other ways to do it, but that's one way they can do it, and that could require substantial reconstruction time.

Thanks bicker!

I thought that I read somewhere that the intended opening date is September 2008. Is that correct?

That's the latest word... a bit of a surprise to many of us.

A great italian restaurant is Il Mulino in the Swan. Ate there twice a few weeks ago. For the second time, I called an hour in advance to request a risotto with chicken and sun-dried tomatos which they accommodated. Just be aware that it will be a "leisurely" meal.

Are the PP's saying that Alfredo's is closing Sept 1 and won't open back up for a YEAR???????? :scared1:  :scared1:  And will it no longer be Alfredo's when it reopens????

OMG! This is like my favorite resturant..... :worship: please say that I'm misunderstanding this thread......:sad1:

No, you're understanding things correctly (at least with regard to what changes will be occurring).
