I just have to share this story with people that will really appreciate it. :)

We have been wanting to upgrade our kitchen since the day we bought our house in May 2009. We had other items that needed to be fixed first, mostly the yard, landscaping and painting outside of house. We don't need to redo the entire kitchen, just want to replace the white appliances that are turning yellow and replace the stained formica countertop.

Last Thursday as I was driving home, I saw that someone about 10 house down the street from us had a Samsung stainless steel dishwasher that was sitting out by the curb with a FREE sign on it. I called DH and told him about it and luckily it was still there 2 hours later when he came home. It's digital so we figured their was probably something wrong with that part but we decided to give it a try anyway. He loaded it in the SUV and brought it home, the manuals were even inside. I googled the model number and it came out in 2008 so it can't be more than 3 years old. He finally had a chance to test it out this weekend. He hooked it up, put some dishes in and started it up. It made a grinding noise for a few seconds, then the grinding stopped, it ran for about 1 minute and then showed a LE error code.
So back to google I went. I googled model number and error code and someone posted with same problem and how they fixed it. Hubby followed their steps and then also cleaned the inside of the diswasher thoroughly. (It was disgusting! He had to soak and scrub some of the parts to get the grease off.) He hooked it back up, I put some dishes in and it ran like a charm. Very quiet and clean dishes. Still running good through 2 more cycles!! :woohoo: I googled one more time to see how much money we saved and this dishwasher sold brand new for $899.

The next day after we picked up the dishwasher. DH was on his weekly shopping trip with DD to Home Depot (DD3 likes to go to ride the lawnmowers so it's a Daddy and me ritual on his day off...lol) He went to the appliance section and saw a sign that said there was an additional 20% off clearance appliances so he started looking around. He found a LG stainless steel double wall oven marked down to $899 from $3199! And a mathcing LG stainless cooktop marked down to $249 from $1099! With an additional 20% off those prices! He called me and I thought he was joking. He gave me the model numbers to look up on-line and I immediately said "Buy Them!" They were display appliances but the guy at HD even printed out the manuals for us.

In 2 days, we scored 3 stainless appliances for under $1200 including tax! :woohoo: And 2 of them are pratically brand new - never been used display models! :dance3::woohoo:

Thanks for letting me share my excitement!

:cool1:WOW! doing the happy dance for you!

That is one thing that I am working on in 2011 is just "patience" with my purchases. I now have a dry erase board on my refrigerator and am writing down things that I would normally run out and buy right away and it is amazing within the next few weeks or month the item usually pops up on sale somewhere.

Good for you! We've replaced several appliances this year- some were real bargains.

Now you just have the countertop! Have you priced it? We are in the middle of remodeling the kitchen completely and the countertop was not that expensive. It is not the real granite, just the laminate or whatever you call it. Ours was $273 for an "L" shape that is 5.5 feet on one side and probably 8-9 feet on the other. Compared to the cabinets price, that was practically nothing! Anyway, it was cheaper than I thought it would be!

Awesome! I love to hear about other people getting deals too.

Yes, replacing the countertops is next on my list. We are not replacing cabinets. Those are in really good shape. I'm not thrilled that they are white but I can definitely live with that, we had white cabinets in our old house too. If I get tired of them we'll probably just try the new cabinet paint they have.

We remodeled the kitchen in our previous home and used granite. I LOVED it and really miss it. That's one of the big reasons I'm so over-the-moon happy about finding these appliances at such a deal, more money in the budget to upgrade the countertop. We've only looked at one place so far. We still have about 3 more stores to check out. Hoping to find something we like that is going out of stock or just cheaper. I also want to look into Silestone. I've heard it all the advantages of granite, anyone have any experience with SIlestone?

My father found us a granite composite sink at a garage sale a couple months ago for $20. We had one of those in our old house too. After almost 5 years of use there was not one scratch, stain or chip in it.

Besides the countertop, we just need a faucet and a microwave. That's what we will be on the lookout for next.

Sweet! You did even better than I did on my washer (got a really good front loader for 50% off just because it was a floor model and had some scratches).

You're lucky it was still out on the curb. Around here things last no more than 30 minutes. We put our old washer out and DH hadn't even made it back up the driveway when someone pulled up. He warned them it was broken beyond repair (well, the part cost more than what a new top loader would run at least, and the part HAD to be replaced, no fixing it) but they wanted it anyway.

YAY for you guys! Those were fantastic deals!!:goodvibes
