Where did you get the ginger pills? Can you get them at GNC or a health food store? Is there one particular brand you like?
This was many years ago when my only choice was dramamine (too drowsey) or the ginger capsules. I figured I'd try the ginger to see if it would work and it did (although took a few minutes, maybe 20-30 minutes before I felt fine). I remember picking them up at a Kmart pharmacy section at the time, but since then they have become quite popular and can be found in most pharmacies (CVS near us I know has them

Also, I'm pretty sure (but I may be wrong) that you can combine bonine with ginger if needed (like in really rough seas).
I also like to carry them with me wherever I am on the ship because it is easier to treat sea sickness at the first sign than after it has gotten bad. I'm afraid if I'm in the middle of something that by the time I feel bad enough to go back to my stateroom for meds it may be much worse

Also, I'm thinking there is something of a psychological element to sea sickness and the meds are kind of like a security blanket for me to carry around

Lots of good advice on this thread

I agree with trying things out several weeks before you leave to see how the different meds affect you. Definitely talk to your doctor or pharmacist to rule out drug interactions too. Start meds at least the morning of boarding the ship if not the day before.
Good luck!!
