Pat Roberston stirring up a storm again

I happen to be a citizen of the United States. I'm perfectly willing to let other countries take care of their own business.

However, as I've said before, the higher oil prices go, the better the economy gets in my state. We may be paying higher gas prices (although some of the lowest rates in the country), but the improved economy is making up for it.

Also, this part of the country doesn't use heating oil. We use natural gas or all electric....neither are predicting any big spikes in costs this winter...at least not locally.

Just call us little Saudi Arabia....:flower:

Regardless, I'm perfectly happy to have my money go to Vely nezuela rather than line the pockets of Bu$h's buddies in Saudi Arabia.

The better your economy will get "to a point". People still need to drive to work, truck their produce across country, fill their supermarkets, provide food products to restaurants. Elevated fuel prices will impact even you. Your conspiracy theories regarding President Bush's " buddies" in Saudi Arabia is getting tiresome. If that were indeed the case, he wouldn't have proposed drilling in Alaska. In fact, given the power you have all attributed to the Patriot Act, he probably could have shut down Oklahoma.

The citizens of the United States elected President Bush, we like him, how come that isn't all you need to know now? Before you delight in additional taxes on oil, don't forget, oil lubricates not only engines of SUV's but the engines of the economy. It all gets passed on to the consumer; yes Peachgirl, even you.

Almost half of Americans didn't vote for him, yet again. I wouldn't be so loose with the "we". Well, I guess we can add Venezuala to the list of Soverign Countries on our "you'd better watch your step or we'll stomp you" list. Oh, btw, another 1,500 troops heading to Iraq soon. :sad2:

Of course, if the price goes high enough, the bad will outweigh the good, but it has quite a way to go before that happens.

Wahhh...too bad. You know full well that drilling in Alaska would not make a significant impact on oil supplies...it's simply another way for oil to make more money. Drilling in Oklahoma won't have any real impact either as far as supplies and prices. Just like Alaska, it's only being done while the huge profit margins are there.

Btw, when Chavez becomes as unpopular in his country as Bu$h is in his, let me know.

Drilling in Alaska gives us another market. Recovering oil from oil fields that have diminishing supplies costs a lot of money. Why would anyone expend a lot of extra money when oil was $20 a barrel. I hardly see that as a "conspiracy" but if you do, stock up on tin foil, you may need it.

Well over half of Americans never voted for President Clinton, so what is your point? Yes, 1500 troops are heading to Iraq soon. If that is what it takes to get the job done, no doubt they will serve proudly and work hard.

Again Dawn, read before you rant.

I never said drilling in Alaska was part of some conspiracy. Indeed, I don't believe it is. I think it's nothing more than Bu$h giving the appearance that he's trying to do something about gas prices....at least it satisfies those who don't bother to think but simply blindly follow their leader.

What a nice thing for a "man of God" to say.

Aren't ministers and priest supposed to preach peace?

If that is true, then the fundamentalists have a lot to learn. They preach war.

My point is "I" am not part of your "we". Can't make it any simpler than that. What exactly is the "job"? I thought the "mission was accomplished"..... And yes, God bless our brave troops that being the good Americans that they are, have to obey the orders they are given. I hope and pray the "job" is over soon and that they can return to their families safe and sound!

The mission of that particular carrier was accomplished but of course, you don't care to see that. The "job" is to assist the Iraqi's in establishing a democratically elected government, historic in that part of the world and staying the course until they can defend themselves against the terrorists who would like to return the country to the 15th century. Yes they do have to obey the orders that they were given but it is an all volunteer army and everyone of them volunteered to serve when they were called. We all wish them success in the mission and a safe return home.

That's not an honest defense.

Don't even bother. It's a losing battle isn't it? :confused3 Anyway, I don't think the mods are going to appreciate the direction this thread is going, so why don't we let ol' Pat have a good night sleep so he can maybe get some divine guidance!

The shame is that the thread had been a model of agreement - there were no Left - Right issues - all agreed that the statement was indefensible. Well, almost all. This is the political equivalent of Dennis Miller's Routine - "what do you have to do to get kicked out of Guns' & Roses?"

Yeah... and the Mission Accomplished sign that was hung behind the President was brought by the President or his staff, but requested by overzealous sailors aboard the ship...no wait...the President's people "brought" the sign, but didn't tell anyone to hang it...No, no wait! OK...so, the President's people brought it, noone aboard the ship requested it and the President instructed the ship to hang it. Big deal! Jeez...do we have to split hairs on everything?!?! He's a uniter, not a divider, stay the course, God bless America, evil dewers, etc, etc, etc.

So does President Bush land on every ship and personally congratulate every platoon of soldiers after every mission is accomplished in Iraq, or only one's with the cameras rolling and banners flying in obvious Presidential campaign photo ops?

No need to answer...it's a rhetorical question, and I can imagine your response will be something along the lines of "Stay the course, if you hate Bush, you hate America, stay the course".

And all this has what to do with Pat Roberston's statements? :teeth:

People like Pat Robertson give Christians a bad name. It seems like all there are anymore are hipocrites like that bozo.

Good ol' Pat has now apologized.

Well, first he lied (I thought that was one of those "sin" thingies ;) ) and said he was misinterpreted (that he never said "assassinate", didn't mean it that way, and it could have meant "kidnapping")...THEN he decided to apologize for calling for an assassination.

And people follow this idiot because....why, again ?
