I was wondering if this place was a place where children could go to eat. Also, is the food any good?

Thanks for any info.

I've never eaten there yet but yes, children can most certainly eat there. They have a really nice garden out back with flames coming up out of fountains. As an adult, I think that's really cool, I can only imagine what a child would think.

Oh wait, yes, I had some gumbo from there at Beer Fest and it was very yummy!

Children are welcome food is good, as is atmosphere and if u are an APH kids get free meal sunday -thursday 4pm-9pm with every adult entree :jester:

We have been there with kids. Typical kids menu...chicken fingers, burgers. We are AP holders and the kids did eat free. Great deal! We had gumbo. It was delicious. It was raining while we were there so we were seated in the Piano Bar. There were several other families there. The time was around 6:00-7:30pm. The kids (and adults) had a lot of fun.

When we were in Orlando in 2002 they told me that kids were not allowed. Maybe that is only after 9 at night and they can come in during the day. Or maybe it is only a part of the place that is off limits to kids. Anyone know for sure?

Pat O Brians opens at 4:00, kids are ok inside til 7:00, patio til 8:00, dueling pianos start indies at 6:00.:bounce:

PatObrians kids are allowed till 9pm although we didd see some after 9 but not mine:tongue:

Thanks for the responses. I am sure my 12 and 14 y.o. DD's would love the dueling pianos, so maybe we can take them for awhile.

Agreed. They should be fine until the evening hours.

My kids (and their parents!) would love to experience dueling pianos even if for only a few hours. I found an event listing for "2 for Tuesdays" at Pat O'Brien's "2 For Tuesdays @ Pat O'Brien's" and was wondering if they'd still have dueling pianos with WTKS radio personnel there.

I didn't buy a GC for Pat O'Brien's because I wasn't sure about their dinner menu, but would love to take advantage of 2 for 1 Hurricanes (none for the kiddos of course:p) & 1/2 price appetizers, especially if we could enjoy an hour or two of dueling pianos.

Can anyone who's been please explain what goes on when they perform? Is there audience participation? Do people sing along too? I know we had an awesome time in a piano bar on a cruise once. We must have asked him to play Piano Man & American Pie a hundred times while we sang along! (so we're not very original, but we knew all the words to those two;))

Sorry for the questions, but any help would be appreciated!

Pat O'Brien's was our favorite, and we went several times. We were never there till after 8 or 9, and didn't see any kids at all (we were there during Spring Break).

Basically, you have two piano players. One takes the lead for one song, and the other backs him/her, and then they switch up. They have a tip cup, and you can write your requests on a napkin and leave it on the piano. If it's busy, and you leave a tip, you have a better chance of hearing your request. They'll play whatever they know, and yes, people do sing along. It can be lots of fun with the right crowd and the right piano players! It's a great place to bring someone for their birthday or special occassion because the players acknowledge those things to the whole crowd.

Of course, some players were better than others, and sometimes one would take a break, leaving only one piano player, and then it wouldn't be "dueling." Our favorite was a guy named George. There was some older lady with long gray hair that she pulled back into a pony tail who wasn't as good, and if it was just her by herself, we didn't hang out at the piano bar.

We had hamburgers there one night, and they were good. You can use your 1/2 price gift certificates just for your Hurricanes too, if you want. ;) It doesn't matter if you just have drinks. They're very gracious about accepting the gift certificates. Had I known, I'd have ordered extras since we wound up there about 4 or so nights!

Thanks for the info Jodie. :D I knew from your trip reports that you had enjoyed Pat O'Brien's and was hoping you'd drop by to answer my questions! :p I know that there are probably some GC's available & I'll really have to think about ordering them! Especially seeing how gracious they were about including drinks on the tab.:drinking1
