Pasta overboard!

We're trying to teach DS to feed himself and one of the things we've started giving him on a regular (read: once a day at least)basis are these Gerber Pasta Pick-Ups. Sometimes he eats them just fine..other times..well...

He's learned the joy of picking them up,dropping them over the side of his highchair and then lookinig at me (very innocently of course) while saying "Uh-oh!" :rotfl2:

I try not to laugh (because it really IS funny)because I know it only encourages him.

My youngest is now 2, and she's pretty much past this stage. It is funny, though, until you have to hose down the kitchen!

What I find amusing now is, whenever we go to, say, baseball practice (her brother is 8), the dogs just LOVE DD2! I think the reason is, these are family dogs, and dogs know that toddlers are a great source of snacks from all that "food overboard". Not to mention a sticky face to lick! So, she goes trotting around the sidelines, with her doggy friends trotting right behind her!

BTW, pasta was always a favorite with my kids, although I never bought baby food. You have to cut up the long strands for quite a while, though--but it comes in so many fun shapes. And it sticks to things--added fun!

Well, we've mostly been giving him the Gerber Pasta Pick-ups, which come in a wonderful variety of flavors like Spinach and CHeese. I did, however, one day not too long ago, give him some adult Beef-A-Roni.

We were going to the grocery store the next day and I was out of Pasta Pick ups for DS. There was a GIANT can of Chef Boyardee Beef-a-roni DH had bought sometime back and I thought, "Well..I can give DS his lunch and have my lunch all at the same time! How convenient!" :wizard:

So I heated it, divided it up and gave DS his part while I sat at the table and ate mine. I don't think he's had THIS much fun with food since he learned how to 'paint' with smooshy baby food from a jar. :rotfl2: It was all over him, all over the tray, all over the floor...I ended having to give him a bath afterwards and mop the floor with a touch of bleach to get the stains off the whitish laminate. I have pictures, which I'll post soonish. I promise. :teeth:

This is why I can't train my dh. :teeth:

PJ loves those as well but when he tosses them over the side, they disapear into the craw of a very hungry Basset Hound!

See now, DWhittles, if your basset hound was at our ball game, he would be all over my DD! We do have cats that eat some of the "food overboard", but they're much more picky and only do meat/cheese, whereas a dog will eat most anything edible.

BTW, TOV, while my kids LOVE Spaghetti-O's and the like, those stain really bad. You can get the orange out, but it takes work. Just thought I'd warn you--I'm sure you have many "orange" meals in your future!
