Is there a hardcover and paperback version of the passporter? I thought it was a leather and paperback version only? Am I dilusionional??? :confused3
It seems like a hardcover would be tougher to carry arouns the parks or to keep open in the parks rather than a paperback. Also, is it not on a ring binder type thing? I have briefly seen one in person but it was wrapped in plastic so I couldn't really look at it.

Thank you!

is a leather covered three ring binder type. I have the 2004 and am waiting for my 2005 refill edition to come. Which means I will not get another leather cover binder, but I will get all the 2005 pages to put into my old binder. Very cost effective I think. I love my passporter--especially the trip pockets and the fact that I can just remove any pages I don't want (ie, the crusie line stuff). The leather binder has slits/pockets for reciepts/tickets/notes and it has a snap closure.

The non-deluxe edition is hard-covered, spiral bound. Both sides of the cover fold out to hold pages open, or to mark your place. It's not terribly heavy, IMHO and fits well in a larger purse or backpack. I don't think it would fit in a fanny pack. It's a fabulous field guide. I love that I feel OK about writing in it. It gets all my notes from these, and other, boards. I keep it next to my computer and jot down everything I think I might need to know while in the parks.

So is there a non-deluxe edition that comes in hardcover and paperback or is it just deluxe and non-deluxe editions. I saw two different spots on Overstock with two different prices and when I asked they said one was hardcover and one was paperback. Thank you for the info, but i'm still confused.

Hillpete- It's going to be my writing and traveling journal too. I will feel free to write in it since my other guides will b given to the library after my trip since they have NO guides for anyone p[lanning a trip, hence why I bought all mine. I have about 8 different guides or just different years and don't need to keep them all but am especially looking forward to my Passporter! And no fanny pack problems since I'll have a backpack since I have 4 kids coming and one still in diapers.

I have had both versions. The one I LOVE is the deluxe version - I keep everything in it, and especially like being able to remove a couple pages and a map to take to the park of the day. My binder is pretty durable. I keep it nearby in my computer room at home and love to jot down stuff. Waiting for the new version to get here, so for now I keep rereading my 2003 one.

The regular edition is not hardcover but like a laminated cardboard material. I carried mine in my backpack last yr. Love it. Waiting impatiently for my 2005 to arrive. Haven't tried the Deluxe yet. :flower:
