Passport ?

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a passport and if there is a web site that helps with this information?

Here is the US Passport Website with plenty of info. We got them re-newed (they were expired) and it took about 4 weeks. New passports are a different process and will probably take a bit longer.

I think they quote you 6-8 weeks but we got ours in less than 2 weeks ... it all depends on how busy they are (how much backlog they have).

DD got her first time passport in about 2 weeks last December. DH got his renewal in about 2 weeks in April (Whew--he waited till April 1 to send in renewal for May 1 cruise)

I wouldn't count on the quick turnaround. Go ahead and get the application in and you'll have one less thing to worry about for your trip.

For an extra fee they will do it in 3 weeks.

Be aware that you have to submit your birth certificate in order to get the passport. It will be returned with your passport. SO...be sure you have plenty of time or pay the fee to expedite things. You don't want to be stuck with no passport and no birth certificate!

Thanks everyone for your input. I love that about these boards, you can always count on getting top notch information.

I was able to check out the site and we are probably not going the passport route for our upcoming cruise. There are five of us, and it's almost $400 to get them.

I was actually checking for my 17 year old daughter who will be flying on her own next month to South Carolina to visit family. She doesn't drive yet and doesn't have a student ID. We think we will be okay with a county issued photo ID and her birth certificate. It is never a problem when we fly as a family, because they ID us, but this time she'll be flying solo.
