Passport...sudden panic!

We're going to WDW in approx 3 months and my stomach has had one of those "twisting" panics! I just need to convince myself that my passports meet the latest US requirements.

As long as your passport has 6 months validity on the date of your return and is machine readable ( ie with the bar code stuff ) you should be ok. The new style biometric passports come into force in Oct 06. Then they will only apply to new passports issued, so old ones do not need to be renewed until their due date.
At least I thnik that is what happens! Unless someone else knows different

Unless your current passport was issued by an overseas embassy in emergency or you're a british SUBJECT not CITIZEN with the 6 months remaining and you're crime free you shouldn't have a problem.

DH's passport was due to expire in Feb 07. Although the US Embassy states you only need a passport valid for the duration of your stay, we decided to bite the bullet and renew it just to be on the safe side. He sent the application form off last Tuesday and got his new passport back yesterday

I had a sleepless night, last week, worrying about a similar thing. My DD passport runs out April 07 and we go in May 06!!! Panic, panic....phoned US Embassy....they told me to look on website.........website is a bit like Disney's(!)......gave up looking.

When i renew DD passport, in my mind i am thinking i then have to go and pay £60 for visa at US Embassy in London........or have i just dreamt all this up!!

Girlsontour... most Brits can travel on the Visa Waiver Programme so don't need a visa. There are exceptions to this but I have to confess I am no expert on this so hopefully someone else will post what these are!

If it is a Brirish passport it doesnt have to be valid for 6 months, just for the length of your stay. When I went last November mine was only valid for 4 months, I rang both the embassy and the airline and they said the 6 month bit doesnt apply to British people travelling on the Waiver (it also says this on their internet site). I had no problems travelling on my passport at all.

Thanks - maybe i will sleep tonight..........but then again only 12 weeks to go and loads of planning to do!! Does anyone else go to sleep dreaming about the parks, which way round to go, which ride first, do we do EE first instead of Safari etc etc etc..................my husband and kids call me "sad"!!!

Jen, although that is the case when it comes to US immigration rules, most tour operators insist that you have 6 months left. We were advised to check with our TA and, when we did, although Airtours don't insist on it, MyTravel (who we're flying with do) It's definitely worth checking with your airline.
