Passport renewal times

We need to renew two passports in our household, my husband's and one of our son's. Trying to decide if we need to spend the extra money to have them both expedited ($$$) or if we have time to have them renewed with normal processing speeds. The government website says 7-10 weeks for normal and 4-6 weeks for expedited. Anecdotally, for those who have renewed recently, are these time frames in line with what you've experienced with turnaround times? Appreciate everyone's input!

I am a month out in submitting my sons renewal and still in processing. The communication they sent me says 8-12 weeks for standard processing.

3 kids renewed July 2nd with standard processing. Approval email came 8/25, all new passports and supporting docs were waiting for us when we arrived home from vacation 9/4. Not sure exactly which date they came as we got a week's worth of mail all at once. So, 8 weeks processing and, conservatively, one more week in the mail for 9 weeks total.

I applied using the new/trial online renewal system. I chose the standard service/shipping.
They received my application on August 12. I received notice that my passport shipped yesterday, Sept. 22. I imagine I should have it in a few more days. So that will be somewhere between 6-7 weeks.

Husband renewed 8/30 expedited, with additional expedited 1-2 day shipping. Received this week. Turnaround 3 weeks

Also, is your son under 16? If so, you need to make an in person appointment with both legal guardians and the child in attendance. (If you don't have both parents, there's a firm that can be brought but it has to be notarized and it's a whole thing until itself.)

Getting appointments around here can be tough, several locations booking weeks out, so you need to look at availability in your area and factor that into your lead time.

Duplicate. Thread was subject to the weird error where comments aren't posting for some people.

Keep in mind that the time doesn’t start until they receive your documents, which was about a week after we sent them in. We were doing our kids’ passports, so we had to do it in person. We did it several months ago, so I won’t comment on timing, but I’d add an extra week on for the documents to be received.

Non-expediated just took about six-seven weeks for two of our family members. I like to pay the extra to have it sent back in a more secure mailing (I think it is FedEx, but I don't recall). We did that on one and not the other (by mistake) and the secure one arrived about a week earlier.

We recently renewed my wife's US passport online in late Aug and it took about 3 weeks to be delivered using the expedited service.

Are US passports experiencing the same processing challenges Canadian passports are having? This thread is here due to the long delays in getting Canadian passports renewed right now.

US Passports until recently have experienced delays due to a COVID backup. With the new online renewal process in the US, the speed was significantly better than I feared/expected.

I responded earlier in the thread, but thought the OP was in the US?

Renewed me and my wife at the end of June and used expedited. We had them in 5 weeks. We got our 2 kids there first passports mid August and did expedited. They arrived in 4 weeks.

My son renewed his, in person, in mid June. His did not show up until September. It was the full 10 weeks and then some which was longer than we were told to expect it. In our area they seem to be consolidating where you can go for the in person appointments which meant just getting an appointment took a week or more. We were asked if we had any trips planned. They warn you to give some wiggle room.

I'm in Australia, it took 5 months to get my Daughter's renewal.
Mine was back in 4 weeks.
