Passport question?

I have just noticed that my husbands passport expires Aug 2005 and we return from florida on the 16th Feb 2005, am i right in thinking that you have to have a certain amount of expiry left on your passport to enter the USA, if so how much? thanks

I believe your passport must be valid for 90 days from the date of entering the USA.

I used to think that it had to be valid for 6 months from date of entry, but apparently this is not the case...

This is from the website of the US Embassy in London :

"My passport is not valid for six months, can I travel?

The requirement that a passport be valid for longer than six months of the holder's departure from the United States is waived in the case of a British passport holder. Therefore, your passport need only be valid for the period of time you will remain in the United States. If you are traveling visa free under the Visa Waiver Program and your passport is not valid for 90 days, your will be admitted into the United States until the date on which your passport expires."

The standard amount of time that you are allowed into the US without special dispensation/visa is 90 days (you may have noticed this from the date on the stamp they put in your passport on arrival). The last part refers to this, and means only that if you have only, say 80 days left on the validity of your passport, you can only stay in the US for 80 days, if you have 75 days left, you can only stay 75 days, and so on...

Since you visit in February and the passport is valid till August, you're absolutely fine !
