I have a trip booked to WDW for Jan 26 to Feb 4th 2011 :woohoo:

I just checked my passport and it expires in March 2011 :scared1:

Does the "must be valid for 6 months past return trip date" apply to US vacations?

I wasn't sure who to call on this :confused3

(I'm flying out of Buffalo)

Its very possible they may not allow you over the border if your passport expires a month after you cross....

I wouldn't risk it....you have to renew anyway, just do it for peace of mind if anything.

You're right, I'll bite the bullet and renew early to avoid any problems

Thanks :goodvibes

Yes my travel agent told us to make sure it was valid for 6 months, they may not be to bad in the states like other countries but you dont want to take that chance.

I never understood the "valid for at least 6 months" thing. In reality your passport is only good for 4.5 years if you have to renew it before it expires to use it?

I used mine up to it's expiry date for shopping trips & day trips & never had a problem, but if I was paying for a vacation I would renew it. Go to the passport office to do it though, don't rely on mailing it away this close to your vacation.

Have a great vacation!

The six month rule no longer applies to Canada. US customs and immigration now has a 6 month exemption list and Canada is on the list. As long as you have a passport that covers your length of stay you will be fine. See the attached link. I actually printed this out for one of our cross border trips just in case as DH's passport was getting close to expiry.

Thanks everyone for your replies :thumbsup2

As there is only 1 month difference between when I return and the passport expiration, I will get the passport done anyway.

Now to get the form and pictures done ;)
