I've been out of the loop for the past 6 months so bare with me.
Last March we drove to Boston and flew out of there. We only needed Birth Certificates and Valid ID's to cross the border and fly within the states. Last spring the word was that in June 2007 you'd need a passport to do the same thing. Has this happened yet? I've been reading on the WHT site http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/agency/whti-ivho/land-terrestre-eng.html and it's saying "no" not until summer 2008 at the earliest. Is this information up to date or did they change their estimate of switching over during the past 6 months? :confused3

Thanks in advance!

That info is correct...only a birth certificate/valid ID is required to drive into the States...no passports are needed yet to cross when driving..just when flying over the border....When flying within the states, no passport is needed as it is a domestic flight... We are flying from Buffalo to Orlando and all SW has informed us that we DO NOT need a passport...

to ask the airline you're flying on. http://www.ppt.gc.ca/help/faq.aspx?lang=e&id=1103

HTH!

Regardless of driving or flying, I would not go to the U.S.A. without a passport. Just easier overall when travelling.

We go to the states all the time without passports. It adds up quickly for a family of 5. We've never had any problems even when flying out of a US city to another US city. My advice put off the passport until the two governments get their act together and finally decide what they are going to do.

Why wait to get them when you're going to need them soon anyway? May as well just get passports for each family member and know that you'll be able to travel without ID issues, for sure kwim? :)
