Passport question

OK, I have a question...we are thinking about doing DW during the "free dining" time and we can book through westjet for our dates for $3255...all in for the 4 of us...but we'd need passports to fly from Toronto, yes?....but if we drive across the border and then fly out of Buffalo, we would not? is that right?

You are correct. We have found it is so much cheaper to fly from the US, and no hassles with luggage at customs in the airport.

I belive you still need a passport even though you are driving to Buffalo and flying out there. I would not take a chance... Plus my Girlfriend just got her passport in less than 10days. She did go to the passport office to get it done and they mailed it to her.

You just need photo Id to to cross the border but that will be changing but not yet.

You do not need a passport to fly out of a US airport. You need a passport to fly INTO the US from a Canadian airport.
When you fly out of the US, they will ask you for ID anyway at the check in counter, but it does not have to be a passport at this point.
Next year you will likely need one to drive over.
Honestly, I would apply and just get them done now and be done with it. If you're going to WDW for free dining, you have plenty of time, even if you mail it in.
We now have ours and I'm so glad we did it. We're flying out of Detroit, but now I don't have to take every last scrap of ID for everyone to get over the border!

As of right now, you would not need to fly out of Buffalo, you would just need ID to get across the boarder, and at the check in desk and such. But if you were to fly out of TO, yes you would need a passport.
But if I were you, I would just go them done. I mean if you are going for free dining, you have plenty of time, it makes it a lot less hassle to bring every piece of ID with you, and less hassle at the airport if they can just scan your passport. I fly out of Detriot and it just seemed easier if you had a passport, the person infront of me did not have one when I went to NYC for Spring Break and it just seemed like a lot of work now, without one. My advice would be just go get one, me and my BF are going to Disney in June, and flying out of DT but we went and got him a passport anyways. Just a little wait maybe an hr and half at the windsor office, and he should have his passport in 2 to 4 weeks. Trust me, you will need in the future, and its better to go get them now, than when everyone else is also in a rush to get one.

We're flying out of Burlington Vermont, but we still got passports for the 4 of us, just didn't want to chance it and it just made sens to me. Don't quote me on this, but I heard that kids under 18 need a passport for ground crossing, but I may be wrong.

You don't need a passport for under 18 land border. We just had DS there a couple of weeks ago.

My brother in law just left for Vegas today and he is flying out of Detroit. All you need is you photo ID to get you across when driving.
