My Fiancee and I go on our honeymoon to Orlando the day after we get married next year, and I'm a little concerned about her passport.

Will my wife as she will be then be able to go through immigration in the UK and the US under her maiden name? Or will we require some additional paperwork (marriage licence etc.)? The holiday is already booked in her maiden name too.

Alternatively is it possible to get her passport changed before we go to reflect her new name? I guess this will require changing her name on the holiday booking too though and I guess we'll get charged for doing it too.

Mandy and I (UKANGEL) got married earlier this year and she kept her passport as it was and we booked most of the holiday in her maiden name. We took the marriage certificate with us just in case.

If you prebook any restaurants etc before going be sure to tell them it is your honeymoon, you get all sorts of good treatment. We got complementary wine at the Hard Rock Hotel and on the cruise.

Any questions fire away.

Nick,
As the holidays already booked in her maiden name I would kepp it that way oterwise it is hassle to change everything else to reflect the new name ie holiday and any excursions booked and the associated costs. Having said that I think with the marriage license you can send it ad the passport off to the Passport Agency up to three months in advance to change the passport but once received back and until the wedding it can't be used. Another downside to changing is often to confirm id on travellers cheques or credit cards photo id is required and it wouldn't match up also same with driving licence if DF is going to drive.
Finally I travelled in my maiden name and took a copy of my marriage certficate incase needed to prove we were recently married.
HTH and have a great time planning and then enjoying.
Claire ;)

Your fiancee definitely needs to keep her passport in her maiden name if the holiday is booked in her maiden name: if the holiday is in her married name, the passport needs to match. It's as simple as that.

You can change the passport ahead of time but when I did it, it just came back with my old name crossed out!! How unromantic.

Changing her name to yours is just a convention, and it isn't automatic. I have several married friends who have kept their own names, mostly for convenience, and at least 2 couples who use a hyphenated version for married things and their own at work. Goodness knows what it says on their kids' passports and birth certificates!

Just take your certificate in case the hotel etc. want confirmation you are newly married for the purpose of making a fuss of you. However I'm sure the shiny wedding rings and silly grins will give you away!;)

Have a wonderful time.

hi

i agree with everything everyone else has said about it,we fly out at the end of feb, just a week after we get married, none of us have ever had a passport before and too begin with i was going to get one in my married name, but you have too get whoever is marrying you too fill out extra forms.plus the honeymoon was already booked in my maiden name, its so much easier to stick with your maiden name if its already booked, plus i wouldnt have time to change my driving licence as well.so im leaving it all for now till we get back.

Hi
We got married on November 21st 2003 day before we went to florida we took the marriage certificate just in case, in case what? but your wife to be has no legal reason to change her maiden name so don't worry and don't do a thing till you get back from enjoying yourselves. We have two other holidays booked in DW maiden name! so she wont be changing a thing until they are out of the way, we know we're married and thats all that matters.
We also told everyone, Virgin flights, hotel, parks it was our honeymoon and the most we got was "congratulations"
