DS passport expires before next summer. As he is now 17 he will be applying for his first adult passport. Am I right in thinking he will have to have an interview? If so where would he have to go?

Thanks for any answers.

If he already has a passport I think he will be ok.

From the UK Passport website -

'The requirement for an interview will apply only to those adults who have never previously held a British passport in their own name. (Therefore it will not apply to people who held their own passport as a child but it will apply to those customers whose names were included in a parent’s passport)'.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that bit. I'd just read it as people applying for their first adult passport rather than adults applying for their first passport.

That should speed things up a lot.

Are the new passports very different to the old ones? The whole family, apart from me, need new passports for 2009. Will mine being different cause any problems?

The new passports are not really that different to previous passports just that they now have a chip and the picture is also digitally scanned in rather than the picture actually being stuck into the passport.

Mines got a digital photo, but obviously not the chip. I guess a lot of people will have families with mixed passports for the next few years.

The biggest difference is the Cost  Think its £74 now!

My last one cost £18!!

I've just had to renew all three of my DDs passports this year :scared1: and even more expensive, my eldest needed her first adult passport!! :faint:

Out of interest, earlier this year when we were at the register office to register DH's father's death, we got chatting about passports and the registrar mentioned that interviews would more than likely be taking place there.

There are 69 interview centre spread across the UK.
