February's Reader's Digest gives information on how to renew a passport fast. Call CIBT at 1-800-671-5102. "With proof of departure, your passport can be renewed within three days for $278 or within 10 days for $238. Uncles Sam's 14-day turnaround is $115."

Hopefully no one would have to use this service but it is good information to have "just in case."

I guess it's good to know that you can get a passport quickly by paying a small fortune. However, if you are a US citizen, you will need your birth certificate and a photo ID to apply for a passport. Those same documents will get you on the DCL without a passport.

Ooops, I just re-read the post that this is for renewals. I guess if you don't have the birth certificate, this would be a quick answer. Still, I'd rather spend the money on the cruise (hee hee)

kcashner - I completely agree with you. Our family does not plan on traveling anywhere in the near future where we would require a passport. I would never spend the money if I did not absolutely have to. My money will go to numerous drinks of the day. How many of those would passport money for four get me?

A long time ago I found a link on these boards on how to get or renew your passport -- from what I can remember renewing a passport is $55, getting a new one is $85.

Here's the link, it answers a lot of questions:
