Crazy situation - last night my DH lwallet is stolen from Southcente Mall Ticket Master last place he used it. He cancels credit cards etc. - this happens about 5:00pm, by 8pm bogus charges were attemped on CCards - DH had cancelled CC immediatley so nothing went through.
Lucky thing is, as per CPS (Calgary Police Service) DH has passport or who else can DH produce ID to provide he is Jo Blo to get a new driver''s license, bank card etc.
Scary thing for us now if identity theft - we're watching and waiting... any thoughts on what we can do is appreciated. It's amazing how violated one feels.

Wow, thats just crazy - hope it will be okay! Yeah, passports are pretty important in a situation like that - especially when you need picture id to prove fraud! Its a bit scary to think of but I have a close friend who is going through a similar situation and its just sad.

so they can put a note on your file... I know that there is another Credit Reporting agency out there but I'm not sure what it is called.

I had to deal with this about 2 yrs ago, someone was using my first name and her last name but had the same address as myself and making all kinds of charges... AND if you possible always use your full name when applying for credit!! there are something people with the same name as you but never will you find a person with the same Full Name as you.

Lucky you, Claudia! My parents weren't forethoughted enough to provide me with a unique name. I just googled my full name as an exact phrase and there are at least 4 other living people out there running around with my exact name... and I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg, because I wasn't one of the results!

The husband of one of my friends has an even more common name... there are 2 other guys, same name, same middle initial, in our city phone directory! He had his Airmiles account hijacked by one of them, who's in retail (that's how we think the guy got the number of his Airmiles account.) The beauty of it, from the point of view of the criminal mind, is that the air tickets the guy booked on his account had the correct name on them!

we bought disney tickets on international drive 3 years ago .then went to pay for the allstar rooms and rejected!!!!!so called visa card number was allready up$500.00 in another charge so the guy called visa for us and got a printout and the card was swipped twice at the off site ticket booth. we called visa and it was cleared up in hours SO BEWARE ON INTERNATIONAL DRIVE TICKET BOOTHS..............

I have a very common last name. So even though my first name didn't used to be that common (although it has been popular for the last 10 years or so) there are tons of "me" out there. I have to sign documentation every time I buy are sell property to indicate I am not one of them. She has apparently made a career out of defrauding people. That is why I am so careful with all my other personal information.

Trans Union is the other credit reporting agency.

Thanks to everyone for the kind works and suggestions. The credit bureaus like Equifax are so important and keep the info online for 6 years. Since we are going to DW end of September I just have this horrible foreboding (I'm sure absolutely unwarranted) that we'll be stopped at the border due to some terrible thing someone has done with DH's id. He is feeling terribly violated right now. Rough time.
