Passport for 4-day cruise?

We are leaving in April for a 4-day cruise on the Wonder. We don't plan to get off the boat in Nasau but will at Castaway Cay. We were never told by our travel agent that we needed passports but then someone recently told me. Argh! Got the kids long-form birth certificates but I had to order mine from my birth-town and I am still waiting for it. We are going to the post office tomorrow as I took the kids today and was told that both parents had to be present. And now I don't know when I'll get my birth certificate or how long it takes to get the passport. I am stressed that I won't get them in time!

You need your birth certificate to order your passport. You can travel without passports though. You just need bc and a picture id for over 18 and the BC for those under 18. Our passports took about 10 days to turn around but that was over a year ago.

Thanks for the reply! So if my passport doesn't come in time I can just bring my birth certificate and my license and I'll be ok?? I sure hope so as I would hate to be on the dock waving goodbye to my family just because I didn't have my passport...

Just to let you know - they take and retun the Birth Certificates with the passports. So if you apply you will not have a birth certificate until you receive the passport (unless you have multiple copies).

Our passports took about 3 weeks (DD was a first time issue - mine and my husband's were renewals

Although a passport is best.....That's correct, you only need your birth certificate and driver's license, but unfortunately you must provide the BC to the passport agency for passport processing and they return the original to you along with your issued passport. If you have two bc you will be all set or you can order another and have it sent to you just in case. Or pick it up at the City Chall in the city in which you were born. Vitalchek.com is a service that will get the bc for you and have it sent.


If you were born in Boston it will cost you about $12.00 to go pick one up.

We just cruised earlier this month and you only need to show your birth cert. when you board the boat in Port Canaveral. You don't need them when you visit a port. So when get off at Nassau or Castaway Cay you will need your license and KTTW card. You will then again need to show you birth cert. when you get off the boat at the end of your trip.
