Passport date pushed back to 1/23/07

Didn't see this announced on this board yet. Found this on the Dept of State website.

"Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document."

Not sure when this date got moved again, several weeks ago it was Jan 8, 2007.

Land and sea entry still listed as 1/1/08.

Frankly I wouldn't travel outside the United States without a passport. If you end up in certain countries due to an emergency, you will not be allowed to leave and be repatriated without a valid US Passport.

I agree, I would make the investment just in case. They're good for ten years and your on solid ground for all identification purposes. The last thing you need on a family vacation is a headache and you are traveling out of the country.

My wife and I take our passports even when we fly domestically -- it's easy proof of ID that we keep with our travel documents, rather than having to dig through our wallets for our driver's licenses. Of course, I wouldn't get a passport specifically for that reason, we only do it this way because we already have them.

It will definitely be a good idea to get passports for the family before that March 2007 cruise. You have the time -- take advantage of that.
