Passport Anxiety

Not too add to everyone's anxiety, but it's smart to also have RFID protection in either the bag you're carrying your passport, or an additional holder for it. There is a lot of personal information on that passport chip that can be read by the bad guys, if they wanted to.

And yes, treat your passport like a credit card (even with more care than your license) and keep it close on your person.

Thanks to a scary post here on the Disboards I'm having anxiety dreams about losing my passport. Does anyone have a great passport holder or a strategy to make sure it doesn't get left behind on the plane?
Yes, my strategy is not to lose the passports. I keep them on me or in the room safe.

For our med cruise I am keeping the originals in the undershirt neck holder, full color copies are in each adult's carry on, with back up copies with the travel agent and one of my co-workers. I am also going to have the kids keep copies of theirs in their back packs in case my wife and I are murdered on a shore excursion by ISIS and they need to show an officer who they are.

Are you being serious?

Why wouldn't they be serious about that? They are on a Med cruise and stuff happens. Why not plan for the worst, just in case?

My only question with it was why they weren't leaving the passports in the room for the kids (assuming the kids are staying onboard during the excursion), or more like why are they seeming to take off the kids' passports?

Is it likely that they'll be caught up in an act of terrorism? No. But anything is possible.

I still think it's silly to think that a copy of a passport is going to do much for you, but as long as you aren't relying on it alone to get you back on the ship, go for it.

Yes, anything is possible and it is wise to be prepared. I simply think that the reference to being murdered by ISIS on a shore excursion is not appropriate.

Didn't mean to be inappropriate, but on our trip we are going to paris and Nice both of which had terrorist attacks in the past few weeks, so we feel we have to talk to our kids (11 and 12) about an emergency plan.

The kids will be with us on the excursion ashore, if I tell them to RUN they are to run at least two blocks in one direction and then seek cover. As things calm down they are to find a local police officer and try to identify themselves, if there is a language barrier they are to show their passport copies and try to get help communicating with the ship.

We were originally booked on the 12 day med cruise which was scheduled to go to Greece and Turkey, which Disney rerouted so we wouldn't die there. It is not unreasonable to prepare.

I'm a fan of passports being in a holder I wear around my neck under my shirt. (I got it years ago from National Geographic.) No chance to lose them because you put them back in after going through customs and you are wearing them.

Make sure each person in your group brings a copy of the Navigator on shore. It will have the contact information for the ship agent should something happen while ashore.

I am infected with the anxiety bug too. I've checked our passports twice to make sure they are where I expect them and they don't expire. Now I have a different worry. My older sons name on our reservation doesn't have his middle name, his passport does. Same passport he sailed with last time, and pretty sure he didn't have a middle name listed on last sailing because his castaway club Id should pull his name from last time right? Should I be worried?

I work at a market which is set up for cruise ships that visit our city. I notice so many people who are carrying their passports in their hand , or just in the top of their purse. They go to get money and take the passport out, lay it down and walk away without it. we return passports, boarding passes and credit cards to security all the time.
you do not your passport or boarding pass until in line to board so bury them in the bottom of your bag so you do not need to more them to get items you want.

I've never put my kids middle names on the cruise reservations even thought their passports have them...no need to worry about that one

DW puts hers in her purse and I always keep mine in my WDW fanny pack with wallet, keys, camera and cash when traveling. When I get to the hotel or on the ship, it goes into the safe.
