Passover is coming!(HERE COMES SHAVUOT NOW!)

Do you make your own from scratch? Wow, if you do. That's impressive. I don't have the time this year, but I am thinking of doing this next year, maybe.

I make everything from scratch, except for the gefilte fish. We have a kosher fish store here that makes the most delicious loaves all year round and for Passover. Tastes like homemade!

My menu:

Chicken soup with matzo balls
Gefilte fish
hard boiled eggs
Our custom is not to eat any roasted meat or poultry for the seder, so we eat the chicken from the soup.
DD is vegetarian, so I make vegetarian liver for her.
Potato kugel or apple kugel
sweet potatoes with honey
cucumber salad
zucchini squash in tomato sauce
Jello
chocolate sponge cake

So happy to have found this thread!

I'm glad I could provide it for you! SHALOM ALECHIEM! :thumbsup2

Well, I'm flying to Israel tomorrow to celebrate Passover. I'd like to wish you all a happy, healthy, and kosher Passover.

Maybe I'll share a trip report when I return.

Please do! Hope your trip is truly blessed! Hope G-d blesses us one day to spend Passover in the holy land.

punkin, I was shopping this morning and noticed a brand called Holiday Candies. They have a dark and milk chocolate covered matzoh. I'm sure there must be other brands out there, too.

Hi Denise! I can't believe how big Mo has gotten!

I have to do my Passover shopping this week. I'm really worried about what to feed the baby. He's such a bread lover!

Every year I try to make a kugel for my mom's seder and every year I manage to screw it up. Maybe I'll try the Passover couscous dish instead.

My children are now in their teens, but I do remember working hard to find things they would enjoy over the holiday.
How about quinoa? There are 2 brands, Ancient Harvest and Eden, that certify that they don't package the product on a line with chometz products.
I've tried the couscous and pasta for Passover. Not a favorite over here, but might be good for a small child.
I also used to buy a box of egg matzoh for them. Even though the adults in our home would not feel comfortable using it during the holiday, it was much easier to eat and digest than regular matzoh.

All right! Computer access!

Hi all from beautiful, sunny Israel! I'm in Raanana now, and I'll be on my way to the Red Sea/Eilat in around an hour. It's great here in Israel for the holiday. They were giving out free shmurah matza to everyone in the airport!

Glad you arrived safely!
Free shmura matzoh!
Have a wonderful time and enjoy Pesach!

(I've never been to Israel and am quite envious right now!!)

I have tasted gelfite (sp?) fish only once in my life - when I was in high school a co-worker brought some her mother had made in her lunch. It was soooo good. I've always lived in neighborhoods that had very few Jews. (I travel MILES for corned beef and salami). I do see it in the jars but my friend tells me the jar stuff is not good. She buys it frozen where she lives on Long Island.

Can someone tell me how to make it? The recipes I have seen are so involved I would need a full-time maid and cook.

Hi, all.

I've arrived in Eilat. It's beautiful.

Did you know that people have been in tents along the Red Sea for days now in order to save their spot for their seder at its shores? Imagine having a seder at the site of the splitting of the sea. I'm a few yards away at my hotel.

Enjoy, all.

Has anyone every heard of bark candy? It's usually made by melting chocolate and I think peanut butter over crushed oreos (or something like that)? Anyway, my aunt makes a variation with matza and chocolate- it's pretty yummy!

Here in NY, there are so many brands of frozen gefilte fish. The jarred brand doesn't compare! Our kosher fish stores sell the fish already ground so it's easy to just mix the ingredients and make it on your own.
There is a brand, called A&B that sells the frozen loaves and they ship. I've never tried that brand but hear that it is quite good. Here is the link: http://www.gefiltefish.com/order.asp?id=1

I've seen dark chocolate almond bark sold for Passover.

Wishing you all a Chag Kasher V'Sameach!
Enjoy the Sedarim with your familes, eat lots of good food and appreciate the peacefulness of the holiday.

Hey - the thread died to quickly. We're still celebrating the holiday!

Had a wonderful kosher for passover dinner at a Cafe in Raanana in Israel. The best chocolate souflee I've ever had - Kosher for Passover or otherwise!

מועדים לשמחה מארץ ישראל

Last day of Passover here. Hubby and I also celebrate the 8th day. Good holiday. Hard to feed son...he ate eggs, potatoes, yogurt, applesauce, peaches, turkey burger, and matzah with cream cheese and jelly. That was his diet! :faint: He ate more eggs and yogurt than anything, but at least he was eating right?

Looking forward to some challah for tomorrow night! :cool1:

Hope all of you had a Happy Passover!

Chag Kasher V'Sameach:flower3:

OK, right after finishing Passover here in Israel (I keep 8th day in Israel too), I ran right over to the kosher McDonalds and had a BigMac, Fries, and grape drink (can't get dairy milkshake with meat burger!).

On my way to Jerusalem today!

I went to Publix and purchased my groceries for Friday night dinner and I had cheese french fries and oreo cookies for a snack when I came home! :cool1:

Understand the no meat and dairy issue. Someone told me that McDonald's has two sides to it in Israel (meat and dairy) is that correct?

Yes, at least in the McD's in the Raanana mall. There is a small section where you can get dairy stuff (shakes, ice cream, etc.)

But when you're kosher, and you have opportunitites to get McD's, who wants dairy?!

PS - another food favorite of mine in Israel. After Sabbath, I ran out and got a skewer of grilled chicken hearts. Awesome!

I AGREE! :thumbsup2

I just miss eating out. Haven't gone out to eat in 2 1/2 years since there are no kosher restaurants where we live. Really looking forward to taking my son to his first kosher restaurant. Hope it happens soon you know. :guilty:
