We got two sets of magicbands sent to us for our trip next month, one set labeled as passholder bands. Are they essentially the same bands and will both work for tickets, dining etc.?

Same thing both will work seamlessly for tickets, fps, etc. It is possible if you want to use them for the room that the AP ones will have to be activated for that but also may not need to. I always test when someone is in the room to make sure it unlocks with the old bands before I take just that one to the parks.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Why do they provide these then???? They don't look any different than the others.

It's a free band. Not everyone stays on site so for some AP's, these are the only magic bands they'll have.

Also comes with an AP slider to put on the band

A lot of AP holders do not stay on property so for locals and those who stay offsite it is a "perk". When you stay onsite going forward you can opt out of receiving new bands now that you will have active ones on file.
