Several years ago I got an annual passholder in order to save on my room. We are going back in Ocober of this year and I am trying to decide if it is worth the money. We will be staying in the polynesian for 7 nights. Does anyone know if they always give discounts and if they do, what is the normal percentage off for that time period.

I also remember the last time i booked my room with my annual passholder, there was an online reservation section for passholders that you could use and the lowest rate was guaranteed to be passed on to you. I do not see that area anymore. Have they changed this and if so, how do you get the discounts?

Thanks for the help

Corey

There is still a passholder section on the Disney website. You have to log in using the ticket number on your voucher/pass in order to access it. So you won't be able to see any of the special offers unless you're a passholder (or unless you read the posts here on the DIS!).

There are never any guarantees that passholder discounts will be offered. My advice to you would be, if you are only going to buy the AP to get the discount on the room, wait until you find out if discounts are offered before buying the pass (believe me, there will be plenty of buzz around here if a code is released). If you are concerned that you might not be able to get the room of your choice, you can go ahead and make a room-only reservation, and if there are discounts available at that resort later, you can have them applied. Keep in mind that even if discounts are offered, they are not always offered at all hotels, and they are in limited quantities. A lot of people made reservations for last December, only to find out that when the codes came out, there were no discounted rooms at the resorts they had booked.

I feel that the only reason to buy an AP is to get the discounted admission to the parks. Anything else is icing on the cake, if it happens to come along.

Do not book passholder rooms on line; call them in. The cancellation policy differs between the two bookings.

Three years ago you could get a pass and pretty much expect a discount on a room. That's not the case any longer; Disney wants to sell packages. Passholders and FL Residents get the leftovers. Still, a Disney leftover isn't that bad of a thing.

You can run some sample numbers to figure out how much savings you would need with the ap to make it worth it.

I used 8 day for 7 night only like a $2 to make it a 7 day instead. Prices are from Disney's site, advance purchase, with tax.

AP - 462.21
8 day base 223.65
with hopping 266.25
Difference 239/196 - over 7 nights you would need to save atleast 34/28 per night.

If you need to get an PAP so you can do the water parks etc
PAP - 595.36
8 day base 223.65
with/hopping and WP 308.85
Difference atleast 370/286 - Over 7 nights you need to save atleast 52 / 40

You should be able to do well even on just one 7 night stay at a moderate or delux, but if you will only be using it for the one stay, you may not realize much on a value hotel. You can get an idea of what savings tend to be (but who knows what the future will bring) at http://www.mousesavers.com/disneyresorts.html#ap.

Thanks for the help. I know last time we went was two years ago and we got 35% off our rooms at AKL. Was hoping to get the same this October, but sounds as if things have changed. Guess I will just have to wait and see.
