Passes Question -Upgrading

Okay,

For my trip in October I am going with my DH, DS, Mother, Father, and Godson for 6 days. One travel day. This will be my hubby's first time ever to Disney. I plan on buying an AP for me (for discounts and DDE). I am planning another trip during the spring of next year, or maybe Spet/Oct to get another trip out of DDE and AP. For my DS, I will get a 10 day non expiry for this and the next trip. Now my dilemma... If my hubby likes DIsney, then I would like for him to go with us next year. If not, my mother will go back with us.

So, should each of them just get a five day pass and then (when he decides within the first few days if he is going back), we can upgrade his or her ticket? Do you still get as good a deal on the passes when you do an upgrade like that?

I wasn't sure and wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

Since tickets are nontransferable,(meaning if he hates it you cant give the ticket to anyone else to use) i would buy him a 7 day (its only like $3 more than a 5 day), then if he knows he wants to come back, upgrade it to the 10 day.... just do it before he uses the 7th day on the original ticket.

They will prorate the price of the 10 day for you.

If you buy a shorter ticket at a Disney Store or at the park and add days later, the cost is the same as if you bought a longer ticket in the first place.

If you bought the shorter ticket at advance purchase discount prices, if you add more days later you still get most of the advance purchase discount, the additional amount due is the gate (non-discounted) price of the longer ticket minus the gate price of the shorter ticket.

As far as I know, adding more days, waterpark plus options, etc. has to be done within 13 days after first usage as well as before the last day is consumed. There is also a trade up procedure, usually with a worse exchange rate, for older tickets that have not expired or that do not expire.

Thank you both so much for the feedback. I feel a bit more relaxed now. So I am set either way. Hopefully he will love it and become one of us!!
