I forgot about this but was reminded when I was looking at the state parks website. With summer here check your local library to see what kind of membership passes or state park parking passes they have to lend out. You check them out like a book and they are free. Sometimes they even have a zoo membership card.

I have never heard of this! We practically live at our library. I will have to ask next time I am in.

They can get passes thru the library in my town. State Parks,Zoo, aquariums, museums including several in Boston. Some are discounted and a few are free passes. It's worth checking out.

Wow that's a great resource! :thumbsup2 Too bad my local libraries don't seem to have anything like this. :guilty:

mine has museum passes and fishing poles. park and zoo passes would be great

Yep, our library in Essex County, NJ (ten miles west of NYC) has the American Museum of Natural History and the Intrepid. We're going to the museum Monday (July 5) and I can't wait!!

When I was little we had family in the Boston area and they always got the pass for the Children's Museum out when we came to visit.

My library only offers free parking/entrance to state parks but the ones back home offer museum memberships and the zoo. It's great. I wish this one did more but I will take what I can get :).

Bumping this up.

For those of you whose libraries offer this type of thing - is it publicized? I go to our library a lot and poke around on the web site - and I've never seen anything. Just wondering if it's usually ONLY when asked that these things are discovered.

It's not advertised usually. HTH It's listed on my state's parks and recs website to get the parking pass free from the library but nothing is listed on the library website. You just ask the circulation desk or head librarian what your branch offers. Some offer nothing. Good luck.

At my little library, it is publicized in the children's room where you get the actual passes. To use the passes, you have be to a member of the Friends of the Library which is $12 a year for the lowest level. We can go to a zoo, the New England Aquarium, and a couple of ther places. The savings on one pass to the aquarium is $12 per adult, so it pays for itself easily. Since my kids are under 3 and are free at the aquarium and zoo we go to, it is a great and cheap treat for them!

I've only ever seen passes to the local Children's Museum. They generally have them (they have the info in DVD cases that are displayed) out in the open in a bright display, but people don't always notice such things.

My hairdresser told about her daughter getting some from their town library. I just googled my library name and "museum passes" to find them. We have about 25 that we can reserve on line or by phone.

If you have a library card with the Chicago Public Library you can get free passes to about 12 museums for a family. The passes are only good for general admission not the traveling exhibits but a wonderful bargain. I know they include the Art Institue, The Museum of Science & Industry & Brookfield Zoo. Visit the check in desk to see whats available. I think you can get a pass for a week.
