Passenger Van Rental

My sister's family, my parents, and my family, may possibly rent a passenger van for next year's trip to WDW. (The trip is still up in the air for my family). But, I got online and looked at prices for a passenger van. They would pick it up in Cincinnati, OH and travel to Orlando and then drop it back off in Cincy. The prices I found just about knocked me off my chair! I did not use any codes. The price I found was $1050 for 8 days with a limited mileage of 1000. Anything over 1000 miles would be 25 cents per mile. By the time you get a hotel to and from Orlando, pay for gas, buy meals, it could almost be cheaper or just about the same to fly - especially with special deals.

Any thoughts on how to get - or where to get - better prices for the van? We have always flown and rented IN Orlando, so this is new to me.

Thanks for ANY advice.

I just rented a van for the trip Sharky Goddess and I took. There are a few things you need to know and consider.

Some (not all) rental companies will have a different rate if you take their vehicle beyond a certain boundary. Knowing most rental agencies now equip their vehicles with GPS this is easy enough to accomplish. The van I rented could only go one state past the point of origin. Then I was assessed a $100+ fee for a week and and additional $20 per day the vehicle was outside their "region".

Other rental agencies will simply have a milage limit or have a different daily/weekly rate for going out of their range.

Again - this is not true of all rental agencies - but it was certainly interesting to find this out at the time of rental. Many times it's in the agreement fine print when you reserve the vehicle - so be sure to read everything before you click that almighty "confirm" button. Caveat emptor is always a requirement.

Last May (2006) I rented a 12 passenger van from Avis from here (upstate NY) and we drove it to Florida for 12 days unlimited mileage and Avis knew I was taking it to Florida. They had no problem with it. ºOº

Do you remember how much it cost you? I know rates change from season to season, and state to state, but just curious.

I will have to call Avis because I cant find it online (loggged onto my account but its not there)I will get back to you with the info later today. ºOº
