We are heading back to WDW in just 3 weeks. We have annual passes so did not to purchase a package, but to get the great free dining deal we had to get at least a one day, so we did. Now, can someone tell me how those passes will be given to us at check-in. Will they be single day, paper passes or will they be just on our room card? We are hoping they are single day tickets and we can use them to upgrade at a later date. Anyone have knowledge or an experience with this? Thanks.

Normally your package passes are your room card.

You may still hang onto them, treat them as single day tickets, and upgrade them at a later date.

You will need to carry and use the room cards for meals. While using your annual passes you must be extremely careful not to insert the room cards into park turnstiles which will waste the park day(s) on them.

Thanks for your reply, that makes me feel better. I didn't know you could keep the tickets if they were on the room card (I figured when the dates of your stay expired the ticket would that way). I still wish I could change it to paper, single day tickets, but this will still work I guess. Thanks.

We always thought the "ticket on the room key" made them sturdier. They won't wrinkle in your pocket, and it won't matter if they get wet. Just be sure you don't use them at the wrong time.
