Does anyone know if there are special lounges where one could sit and cool off in a quiet place at IOA or Universal? I know that I had read this somewhere but I cannot remember when or where.

Hmmm. Well, there's the Explorer's Lounge at IOA, but that's for private events and visiting VIPs only.

The best place I can think of offhand to "sit and cool off in a quiet place" would be the seating area at Burger Digs in the JP Discovery Center at IOA. It's huge and seldom full. You could go off in a corner and get away from it all.

IOA also has some secluded outdoor spots (in JP, PoE) but I don't think those qualify as being "cool" on a hot day.

Some of the best places I recently found to beat the heat are as follows.

IOA - Mythos, There is a small seating area just inside the entrance. Enchanted Oak, Nice place to wait as your party is riding Dueling Dragans. Cat In The Hat - Wait on line for the ride, I think this is the coldest place in IOA. The Comic Strip Cafe has plenty of Seating a nice place to wait while riding Dudley Do Right. Also the Pizza Restuarant by Hulk is nice place to wait for the Hulksters.

USF - Shrek Store, Jimmy Neutron Store, A tribute to Lucy. Also Any of the Child Swap Areas of the rides offer plenty of seating to take a rest in airconditioning comfort. Just pretend your waiting for significant other and baby on the ride.

This question reminds me of some of the early day perks. Forgive me for being nostalgic, but...

Years ago (10 to be exact), my husband worked for the company that was sponsoring ET at the time. There was a company lounge in the ET building. We could go in, relax & cool off, get sodas (no charge), have pictures taken with the life-size ET statue and then take the back door onto the ride. The door opened right onto the staging platform.

All we had to do was show his company badge at the door. Of course, this was after we pried the location of the lounge door out of the HR department at his work. It wasn't info they dispensed readily :-). Then, with a quick call to HR to make sure the badge number was still valid, making sure he was still a valid employee, we were escorted into the nice cool lounge and treated like VIP's.

Since he no longer works for the company, I have no idea if they still do this. I doubt it. But at the time, many of the sponsoring companies had private lounges at the rides. It was a nice treat, to say the least.
