Here we go again....

My husband was in the Disney Store on Monday standing in line waiting to purchase something. The CM at the register was apparently a DVC member and was helping a customer who was also a DVC member. They were chatting briefly about DVC while she rang up the purchase and the CM starts going on about this brand new, just announced, discount on hopper passes for DVC members. She told the customer she could now buy her passes at the Disney Store and get a discount using her DVC card.

Now..... I know this can't be correct, but I just want to confirm to put my husband's mind at ease because he is ready to try this despite my telling him it cannot possibly be true and that this CM (like so many others) is misinformed.

Well...its not on the dvcmember website yet if it exists...

Since the demand would be low I can't picture Disney doing it...figure 60,000 members minus those who are already annual pass holders minus those it wouldn't occur to go to the Disney store to buy passes multiplied by a guess of 3 or 4 passes per purchaser. Doesn't seem worth it to Disney.

Jenn, there was nothing mentioned at the OKW annual meeting in late November about a park hopper discount for DVC members. However, I do hope you & your husband know DVC members DO get a discount on merchandise at the Disney Store.

No discounts on admission media, only the merchandise (standard 10%).

At the BW meeting, the ever ongoing issue of pass discounts was brought up. Regretfully this is not up to DVC to implement. If DVC wanted to give discounts to all members, it would have to be subsidized through dues, and frankly, I don't want my fees paying for anyones park passes. The discounts for DVC members at the Disney Store are given by The Disney Store. The only way that DVC members are going to get discounts is if WDW Parks and Attractions decides to offer it to members. DVC can't "make" them offer it. And with WDW P&A not offering it, the only other thing to do would be to have DVC supplement it. That would come out of dues, and that is completely unacceptable.

Was this for Ultimate Park Hopper passes? or just for regular hopper passes?

If it was for Ultimate...what's the difference between getting the 10% discount at the hotel when you arrive or getting it at the Disney Store in advance? Just sounds more convenient to me.

We received a discount on our a 4 Day Park Hopper last year when we bought our tickets at the local DS. I believe it may have been a mistake but I have heard other similar instances where members are given their standard discount on entry passes. Just smile and say thank you.

UMP's are available only at your resort and are encoded on the room ID/key. They are specific for the stay at the resort and are NOT available at TDS.

TDS does offer a 10% DVC discount, but the discount has always been only on merchandise and admission media, gift certificates and Disney Dollars have always been excluded from the DVC discount.

There have been (and are) some TDS where CM's are uninformed about what is allowed and thus generously apply the DC discount to Hopper tickets. There are several items at TDS where DVC is allowed and DC is not, but some CM's err on the guests side. If your TDS is one which is generous in this way, just say "Thanks " and enjoy!
