Party seated at more than one table?

I just tried to book a lunch reservation at Olyvia's and the "Please note that your party may be seated at more than one table" message popped up. Is Olyvia's restaurant that popular that my family of 6 would have to be split up?

Mind you, I wonder if seating at 2 separate tables will help with the automatic 18% gratuity we always have to pay!

No it's a standard message. We've dined at Olivias with 8 without issue.

Maybe it just has something to do with the restaurant's set up?? We had a group of 9 at California Grill and we were all seated together. (that's another one that you get that message about two tables)

We always leave at least 18% tip whether it is automatically printed on our bill or not.

1) All eateries have different types of tables.
. . . eg. two-person
. . . eg. four-person
. . . eg. six person
2) However, when possible, they can move together.
3) At other times, based upon other ressies, they cannot move together.
. . . the tables are not close to each other
. . . the seats don't match (a 2-top and 3-top for six people)
. . . moving table would block or narrrow and aisle
4) This statement saves them from problems and complaints.
5) Usually, a party sits together, but just as often, they are split.


NOTE:
And yes, if more then five on the ressie, mandatory 18% tip imposed.
Even if the party is split. The key is "on the ressie", not where you sit.

It's a standard disclaimer that shows up for parties of all different sizes including parties of 1. We have had it on a reservation for 3. As much as possible they will seat all of you together, but for 6 people I doubt you'll ever be split up.

Thanks for posting this question! I was wondering the same thing, as I received the same message when booking a breakfast at Tusker House for our party of 6. Out of the 9 ADRs I made, his was the only reservation where I got that message. Hopefully it will work out where we're all together, and if not we'll make the best of it.

Our party of 7 was split into 3 different cars very far apart at Sci Fi Drive In. We waited 45 min after our ADR time to try to sit together but we were still far apart.

At one of our upcoming Epcot ADRs I received the message on a 5.50pm but not on the 5.40pm - both options were avail when booking.

After receiving it on the 5.50 I tried the 5.40 and didn't receive the message.

Not all reservations get this message, and yes, it has turned up on reservations for a party of one. It is a standard disclaimer. Unless you are a large party or you have booked a restaurant like Sci Fi where the seating is not very accommodating for parties above a certain number, don't worry about it.

After so many tables have been reserved at certain sizes, the Disney reservation system notes there are only tables of 2 or 3 persons left for that particular time (like 5:40pm), but the staff will do everything they can to seat you together. The computer has no idea when the group that arrived at 4:00 will finish eating so it assumes that table is still busy when in actuality they will proably be long gone by 5:40pm (for example).
As for the character experiences like Tusker House, they try to seat as many groups together as possible but they need room for the characters to dance and sing, visit tables etc. At Tusker the characters lead the kids in a Congo line around the tables so the staff can't cut off an entire area with one long table because some people may get lost in the corners. If you are a group of 6 or 8 it probaly won't be a problem but a group of 20 may all be in the same section (corner area) but not necessarily at one table. Hope this helps

For what it's worth, I made dozen's of ADR's for 8 for a trip in January. I got the "you may be split up" message every time and we never were.

Can I ask what party number would start having a problem at Sci-Fi? We are a family of 5 and I know my kids will want to sit in a car. Will a single car hold all of us???

A car will hold six, two persons per "seat." So someone will have to sit on their own "seat" or if you have any small children you may be able to squeeze one into a seat with two other persons.
