Hi

I am just wondering if someone can help me as I have gotten myself very confused. We have a DDE card an used it when I was there with DBF in May. We struggled to 'understand' what it was used for but were led to believe that it was almost like a free tip and then some extra card as it added on 18% gratuity and then took 20% discount.

In November we are going back as a party of 6. Am I right in thinking that all tables of 6+ have an automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill? And if so, how does this work with the DDE? Does it at on another 18% (taking it to 36%) and then take off 20%

I hope this isn't to complicated but I am very confused.

Please help!!

The DDE card charges an 18% tip no matter what the party size. They will first take 20% off your bill and then add 18%. It works the same way if you are a party of 1 or 8. Hope this help.

I've always heard you are supposed to tip off of the non-discounted amount. Not sure how DDE does it.

And, just because you have a large group and it may come up, you need to know if you want to split the bill, each "sub-group" needs to have one DDE card to get the discount.

The DDE Card charges an auto gratuity regardless of your party size.

Party of 2 with DDE
$100 - Food Bill
$20 - DDE Discount
$18 - Auto Gratuity 18%
$5.20 - Tax
$103.20 - Total Bill

Party of 2 without DDE tipping 15%
$100 - Food Bill
$15 - Discretionary Gratuity 15%
$6.50 - Tax
$121.50 - Total Bill

If you're a party of 6 you'll be charged an auto gratuity regardless of how you're paying BUT you will not be charged two gratuities. I'll break it down with and without DDE below for you so you can see it

Party of 6 with DDE
$300 - Food Bill
$60 - Discount
$54 - Auto Gratuity 18%
$15.60 - Tax
$309.60 - Total Bill

Party of 6 without DDE
$300 - Food Bill
$54 - Auto Gratuity 18%
$19.50 - Tax
$373.50 - Total Bill

Thank you so much for helping me to get my head around that! Looks like the DDE card was a good investment!

Thanks again

It is a good deal if you're planning on a lot of table service dining, esp. at the resorts (free valet) and with a larger group. Just remember that angey77's comment about one check; the DDE discount does not split (unless the other group has their own card). FWIW.
