Party of 3 on the DDP - April 2012 *Updated 5/15: CHH and Final Thoughts*

Awesome!! THank you!! How soon in advance can you book this? We are thinking about August. THanks.

We booked about 2 or 3 weeks out, but I tried for several days before I found an ADR so I think I may have gotten lucky with a cancellation. There is a thread in the reservations sub-forum that posts when the different months open for booking. I think it's usually about 2 months in advance. Good luck!:goodvibes

Thank you for your help on this!! I am excited to try it out. Looking forward to you other reviews. They have been great so far!

Really enjoying your reviews! We really enjoyed Mamma Melrose's as well. That cake looks yummy. Question about the German restaurant - did it smell like sourcraut (sp?) inside? My fiance would love to eat there, and although I don't care much for German food I'd do it for him if that smell wasn't overwhelming. Really enjoyed the photos of the interior of the restaurant and the band! Also, did they play any polkas and if so did people dance to them? Thanks for taking the time to post!

Hi there! I don't remember smelling saurkraut at all, although we seated almost as far from the buffet as you can get so maybe someone who was seated closer can chime in. People were up and dancing, not sure if it was a Polka or not but the dance floor was pretty full! HTH!:goodvibes

Great reviews and pictures! We ate at Mama Melrose last year but were too full for dessert:scared1: the review of the cannoli cake is really making me regret that.

You were so much more restrained than I was at the dessert party
I remember the chocolate dipped strawberrys being particularly yummy :cloud9:

Thanks for the review of the dessert party. We are going next month and are so excited. I booked ours within an hour of the May window opening, so hopefully that means we'll have a great table! :)

Weare eating at Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic package next month and considering the dessert party.....looks like it was nice. :)

Really enjoying your dining review. I have to live vicariously through the Dining reviews and Trip Reports for now since we don't have a trip on the horizon at the moment (most likely not until 2014! :worried: )

Love your review of the Dessert Party! I would love to do this someday and I hope it is still around in 2014!

Question, was that "Mango Shooter" like a sherbet/ice cream or like a smoothie/shake, I'm guessing smoothie/shake due to the straw, but I don't know how anyone can drink out of one that wide.

Looking forward to reading more!

I always check out the dessert menu online first so I can plan accordingly:rotfl2:! Hope you get a chance to try it!

Seems like the dessert parties are really poplular so hopefully they'll be around in one form or another for your 2014 trip:thumbsup2. I didn't try the mango shooter but it looked to me like the consistency of a smoothie.

We started off our third morning with breakfast at Gasparilla’s. We used three snack credits to get a pecan sticky bun, yogurt parfait and a bottle of orange juice, then we paid OOP for one adult Mickey waffle meal and a bowl of cereal with milk.

The pecan sticky bun was delicious! Sweet and gooey with lots of pecans. I may say it rivals for my affection with the cinnamon roll on Main Street Bakery:love:.

DH had the yogurt parfait and while I didn’t try it, it didn’t look quite as appealing as the made-to-order ones we’ve had at the moderates in the past (not sure if all locations have gone to this pre-made version:confused3).

Mickey waffles were as tasty as any place else we’ve had them. The bacon was crisp and flavorful and we all shared in that.

It was a nice sunny morning so we were able to sit outside, which I found more pleasant than the inside seating area.

Cost OOP for the three snack credit items would’ve been about $10.50. The waffle platter cost $5.69 and the cereal/milk was $3.19.

Yum, yum - that bacon looks really crispy and tasty. Gasparilla's is the CS place at Grand Floridian, is that right?

Ooh, what day were you at the dessert party? We were there the 18th. We were table 101, first row at the rail and 1 table from the desserts. I loved those mango shooters and I seriously would like to know where they get strawberries that big!!

Now that's what I call a breakfast !!!
Yummy :)

Hehe, sure beats the bowl of Special K I just had:rotfl:.

We just missed you! We were there on the 17th!

We started getting hungry for lunch when we were over at Splash Mountain getting FPs so we decided to see if the elusive Tortuga Tavern was open.

It was so we hopped in line and ordered two taco salads and a kids’ quesadilla meal. It was quite crowded in the seating area and the only table I could find had no chairs. Luckily there was a table nearby that had three extra chairs so I was able to drag them over and get us set up:thumbsup2.

The taco salad is pretty much the same as I remember it when this location was El Pirata y El Perico. What you get on the tray is a taco shell-bowl with the ground beef in it and a packet of sour cream. You create the salad part yourself from the fixins bar inside. Here is my salad after I added tomatoes, lettuce, shredded cheese and salsa:

I enjoyed the salad – the sour cream and toppings added something cool and refreshing, which was nice on such a hot day. The beef had a nice flavor to it. The shell-bowl was a tad bit soggy even on the sides, but that's okay, I didn't really need to be eating that whole bowl anyway ;).

I didn’t get a picture of DD’s quesadilla but it must’ve been good because it disappeared off her plate pretty quickly.

For dessert, DH and I both ordered the cookies and cream gelato.

It was a little melty by the time we were ready to eat it, but I don’t mind melty ice cream (reminds me of a milkshake) so that was fine by me! We flipped one of the lids and gave DD a share from each of our cups and there was plenty to go around for three. The gelato was quite tasty and there were lots of Oreo bits in there.::yes::

One of my complaints about the DDP the last time we used it was how bored I got with the CS dessert options (like the pre-packaged chocolate cake). Gelato was a nice change of pace and as an ice cream lover, I was happy to see this choice cropping up at a few CS locations.

We used three CS credits for this lunch (two adult, one child). The cost OOP would’ve been $33.
