What a strange winter this has been. There is a winter storm warning in place for northern Florida. Tallahassee could get 2 to 4 inches of snow. Snow flurries are expected as far south as Ocala. No snow is expected in the Orlando area, but it will be wet and very chilly! Makes those 90 degree summer days sound pretty good.

:)Waiting for it to blow through here tonight and hope we get just a little bit of snow. Our schools are closed tomorrow and there are some shelters open. We live on the MS Gulf Coast. I have only seen it snow here about 5 times in my 41 years.

WHAT?!?!?! NO!

I'm in Gainesville (north of Ocala by 30mi) and this is not okay.

Sorry to be a baby Northerners, but I live in Florida so I don't have to deal with this stuff!!

Stay warm everyone! :)

The good news is that you should only get flurries. The measurable snow line is supposed to stop around Lake City. That is probably still way to close for comfort for you!

Just checked my bookmarked weather channel link and it says SNOW FLURRIES FRIDAY AM....GET OUT OF HERE! :faint: :dance3:

We only have sleet right now. Still waiting on the snow. We live north of I-10.

Ha! Yeah, even though my grandmother is out of the "danger" zone, she is completely freaking out at the prospect of snow. I hope that those of you who don't want it, don't get it!

Why can't you southerners handle snow? When I was a kid in Utah, they only cancelled school once due to weather, and that was because of a power outage. I hiked to school in six inches of snow, often more, on many a morning. And often in temperatures of 10 degrees and below! Heck, any temperature above 32 degrees during the winter months was automatic shorts weather!

You are all a bunch of WIMPS!!! :rotfl:

Whew!!

I just checked my weather and it's supposed to rain all day but there's no sign of flurries.. yet.

Again, I hope everyone stays warm!

And yes, we are wimps!! :lmao:

We are only getting flurries here. St. Louis area just gets passed over these days as far as major accumulating snow. Crazy weather!

I will openly admit to being a wimp.

Now that said..... I have lived in northern climate where it snowed quite regularly. It was a different cold, and I don't know if I can explain it. It seemed to stop at your clothing though. Down here, it isn't cold that often, but it seems to go straight through your clothing and all the way down to the bone. It is just so hard to get warm.

We also have another problem in that many of us just do not have the proper clothing, etc for severly cold weather. I know quite a few people who do not own a pair a closed toe shoes. I know lots of kids that do not own a pair of long pants. I used to see them at the bus stop in long short and flip flops on even our coldest days. I know. I know. Why don't their parents buy them proper clothing, right? Do you know that I have never even seen a heavy coat for sale down here? I've seen heavier jackets, but not an actual coat. Very few gloves and hats, too, and they are always gone fast when we get some cold.

Then if you can find them, those clothes are expensive. Are they really worth buying them if they will only be worn for a week? Maybe it is just better to stay inside.

Anyway, that's partly why I'm a wimp. If I had all the winter gear, I'm sure I'd be less wimpy. LOL!!!

For the same reason you'd not be able to handle a hurricane in your state with the same efficiency that it is handled in the south.

There is no heavy equipment to deal with any accumulation of snow, there are no chemicals/salt to deal with ice formation on the roads, people are not used to driving on ice and snow slick roads (yes, it takes different driving skills) and that causes its own series of side bar problems.

It's not a matter of being "wimps" rather a matter of what is usual for the climate.

Come down on an August day, and mow a two acre lawn with a hand mower. We'll see who is a wimp then. :rotfl:

Differences in climate between the states are one of the reasons people choose to live in a given state. When the weather changes significantly, it will take people by suprise, cause concern and even scare some folks. It's also dangerous in many ways, as homes are not always set up to handle extended periods of cold weather.

The Dallas area got 12 inches yesterday. It is indeed a strange winter.

Your blood thins. I lived in upstate NY and would have to dig my car out after work to go home all the time w/o a second thought! I drove my kids to school yesterday (it's less than a 10 minute walk) b/c it was 35, and I am SO TIRED of being cold. I'm freezing all the time. Where is the sun.....?:headache:
