Hello all: I am trying to work a thanksgiving 2005 trip into our budget. I'd love to take on some part time work that is very flexible or that I could do from home. Is anyone dong this successfully? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!

Look into selling on EBAY, that is what some people do here.... see the EBAY link on this board. :)

I work part-time on weekends at a MAJOR discount retail store. I work weekends because my husband is off on weekends so we rarely have to have a babysitter. When you think about working part-time you have to factor in babysitting, gas, eating out, clothes, etc. Is it worth it? For me it is for several reasons~~extra money, benefits (after 2 years), and ME time :flower:. They are pretty flexable with my hours and I make decent pay (mostly because I live in a resort area and they have to pay well to keep people).

I have also done babysitting but you really need check into state regulations before doing that full-time.

How about running errands for people? You could do that around your errands.

See what your town needs and you may find a new job!

I can sew, so I do alterations and minor repairs. I also sew those pesky scout patches and karate uniform trim for the moms who can't or won't sew. A few bucks here & there in my spare time adds up.

Mad for the mouse I am one of those mom's who loves people like you willing to sew scout patches. Otherwise my son wuld have a pile of them on his dresser.

I wish you lived near me!!!! *LOL* I have 3 merit badges I need to sew on DS' sash by Tuesday.

As for a part-time job maybe check out a local greenhouse. I know ours hires 3 extra ladies in the spring. Even places like Lowe's carry plants in the spring and my need someone seasonally. Or maybe you could do some medical billing. Of course there is always Ebay if you like to shop estate sales or auctions.

has anyone ever checked into the "free" HR and Block tax school. You can work for them a few months doing taxes.

I work at a small mom-and-pop owned retail store a few days a month. The money is great, the owners are fabulous and I get a very nice discount.

Check into watching kids after school and on school breaks. Many parents have a hard time finding reliable, safe childcare. I babysit my son's two best friends on school holidays--$25 a kid and that includes lunch and whatever we decide to do that day--children's museum, history museum, art museum, zoo, park, waterpark, trip to the library (all free) or skating (ice or roller)--not free, but a lot of fun. The kids have a ball, my kid has someone to play with all day and I make good money for not doing much!

Does anyone know where I could find out more info on medical billing? I've been trying to find something PT as well, but my time is really limited because I'm a SAHM and my husband doesn't have set hours (military) so I'm thinking that I need something I can do from home.

I work full-time and got a PT job right before Xmas at a nearby gift shop. I worked Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until Xmas and now just Thursdays from 5-7 and every other Saturday. I estimate that I can make about $350 - $400 between this week and the week before Easter when we go.

We have a 4year old daughter and so I just turned everything over to my husband when I work. I think the fact that the money is doing to Disney has a lot to do with it.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble on the at-home jobs but it is very unlikely you will get a job doing medical billing at home. You have to take a course and be tested and certified and then find someone willing to let you do this at home. Most places do this on site. I am a medical transcriptionist at home and I looked into medical billing too and there were very few opportunities for working at home with billing. Some of the other ideas posted are great though and things I hadn't thought of. Keep 'em coming.

there is always demo work at sams clubs and supermarkets. Usually if you just ask the person doing the demo they can give the name of who to call. They only bad thing about it is that you are a contract worker and have to pay your own taxes.

I know most schools are always looking for lunch ladies too.

I'm not sure the age of your kids - but I just got a pt job as a teacher's aid at my dd's preschool. It's very flexible. The scedule fits around my kid's so I never need a sitter. All of the teachers and aids are moms so everyone really understands family schedules.

Also- even if there aren't any openings in a nearby preschool; you might want to look into signing up to be a sub. This time of year - I know our school is constantly looking for subs. When kid's are out sick - mom's usually stay home with them

Good luck!

Tinkim,
Tell me about the medical transcription thing from home? How did you get into it, what training do you need, etc. Thanks.

Nik's Mom ~ There are reputable on-line schools where you can take a medical transcription course. There are lots of schools but only two I would recommend . . . Andrews School and M-TEC. These are the top two schools where you get an adequate education to be able to work at home and also two of the only schools that employers will even consider their graduates. Check out those two schools and PM me if you would like more information. :flower:
