Hi all :thumbsup2

I'm thinking of renting some points at VGC next August, as I really want to stay at the hotel for 4 nights and am worried if I wait until my 7 mth window I will be out of luck.

I will be in the Anaheim area for 7 nights and would ideally LOVE to stay at VGC for the duration but finances won't stretch to renting for the whole week.

My question is: if I'm lucky enough to book the additional 3 nights at 7 mths using my own points, is there a way I can link the two reservations so that we can stay in the same room for the whole week? As I will be renting for half of it, I wasn't sure whether that would be possible?

Any help is much appreciated :thumbsup2

We did this last November, at AKL, with no problem. We booked our own points at 11 months, then rented additional points for another 2 nights later. We made sure the reservations were linked, then reminded them at check in. We stayed in the same room the entire time. The only thing we had to do was on check out/check in day we had to go to the desk and do that.:)

That's great - thank you ever so much :thumbsup2

If you transfer points into your account, you own the reservation and it will be treated like your own. If you "rent points", you don't own the reservation and the owner who used the points to make the reservation will need to contact MS as will you to combine the nights into one stay.

Oh ok thank you :thumbsup2. I was hoping to book using the link advertised on here for Daddio - do you think as a company, they will do that or would they not have the time?:thumbsup2

Daddio doesn't own the points he books trips with. He is just a matchmaker between an owner who has books to sell and a vacationer who wants to make a reservation. It may depend on the owner of the points.

One other thing to remember. There is supposed to be no compensation for a transfer of points. If you discuss the price you intend to pay while you are on the phone with MS, you might get pushback from them.

Thank you for explaining that - I didn't know any of this as I haven't used the service before:thumbsup2

Can I ask one more question - Does that mean my booking is at as much risk as renting from a private person? I'm scared to do it through someone I don't know as its such a lot of money, so thought this seemed safer.:confused3

Transfers require as much if not more "trust" between the two parties than rentals do.

In a rental if the renter does not pay, the member simply cancels their reservation and the points go back into the members account, but once points are transferred ...they are gone....period. Because of this, the transferring member wants assurances that any agreed compensation for the points is done prior to the transfer of the points. This is where Paypal or some other similar service is generally used in these transactions.

So does Daddio get transfers in or is he just renting me points from a 3rd party who could cancel on me?:confused3

Sorry but I don't understand this whole process - I'd prefer to use my own points but know that getting VGC for 6 nights at 7 mths out is a gamble and we definitely want to stay there::yes::

You are renting a reservation through David's, and that is a little different than going by yourself through a private renter. David does not give the owner of the points all of the money upfront. The owner only gets 1/2 at first, and I think they get the rest when you check in.

Since you really want to stay at VGC, i would do the rental from David's.

We used our own points this past June and got a 3 night studio rental at VGC. What a wonderful DVC resort!

Thank so much for your post Bobbi - that's really helped :thumbsup2

I had planned to try my luck at the 7 month mark, but the more I research the VGC , the more I know how disappointed I'd be if we missed out on staying there, so will definitely give David's a try - I'm so excited for our west coast trip and it's still almost a year away!:yay:

Sorry to hijack the thread but it seems similar to my situation...

BLT October UY Owner...we are headed in for a week and 4 of those nights will fall in September 2015 and we already borrowed, so we can do the last 3 nights Oct1-3 on our own 2015 points borrowed from 2016, but need to either rent or get a transfer.

I understand the rental aspect, but if we find another BLT owner that has points we can transfer over, does there UY matter or do the transferred points get switched to our UY? I am extremely confused by this and any help would be greatly appreciated as we are coming up quick on our 11 month window...

Thanks

Daddio doesn't get transfers in. He is just matching you up with an owner who has points they don't need to use. He manages the funds for the reservation and remains your point of contact for the reservation. You pay him and he pays the owner who makes the reservation.

Yes, it does matter on the UY. You'll need points that will be good for your Sept nights. If you transfer Oct 2015 BLT points, you won't be able to borrow those for a Sept 2015 reservation since you cannot borrow transferred points.

So you need either 2014 points that don't expire before Sept 2015 (like Oct or Dec 2014 points) and transfer them into your Oct 2014 contract (they maintain their UY and resort) or 2015 points that would not need to be borrowed and transfer them into your Oct 2015 contract. If you did get transfer from a Feb through Sept 2014 points (into your 2014 UY), you would need to bank them before the banking deadline expired.

So you need points that will be good for a reservation in Sept 2015, either Feb through Sept 2015 points, Oct or Dec 2014 points or Feb through Sept 2014 and bank those before their banking deadline expires.
