Part 13
April 29, 2005
The tension was increasing. The parents/grandparents/inlaws (depending on who you are) are coming.
Nah. We all (even my stepdad) love Grammy and Grampa. In fact their arrival was semi anxiously awaited. Cleaning up for their arrival, though, wasnt too fun. Once the cleaning was finished mom, stepdad and I took a walk to fill the mugs again, and pick up another box of crackers. We decided at that time to see if there were any PS openings anywhere, because we didnt really feel like cooking (ok, they didnt feel like cooking, and I didnt want any more hot dogs). So we went down to the front desk and it turned out Kona Café had an opening at 7 pm. Well take it. Wed never eaten there before, but we decided to try it out.
Grammy and Grampa pulled in around 12:30. I actually saw them, but no one believed me. Boy were people surprised when the phone rang and it was the two of them calling from their dashboard (Onstar) looking for the welcoming committee. Anyway. Mom and stepdad went to get them. I went for a walk and still beat them back to the room. We had lunch, then changed and went swimming. Around 3:30ish we walked from the pool over to the marina where we rented a pontoon boat and went cruising around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. Was a lot of fun. Id do that again in a heartbeat. We all liked it. Then back to the pool for a bit before going back to the villa to change for dinner. We drove over to the Poly, because my Grammy cant handle the walking that would be required to use Disney transport to get there. As soon as Grammy stepped out of the car she fell in love with the Poly. She said it was just like being in Hawaii. Ive never been to Hawaii and Ill never go unless someone sedates me for that flight, so Ill take her word for it. We went upstairs, checked in, and were seated before 7 pm. That fact really impressed Grammy. Our server was extremely attentive. There were 7 of us. We each ordered our own entrée, but there were only 2 choices made at the table. I had Pan Asian Pasta, which was excellent. The other order at the table was the Coconut Almond Chicken, which was also awesome. We all were very impressed with our meals and will definitely go back there. Grammy kept bringing up that meal, actually, on Mothers Day, a sure sign that she liked it.
After dinner we hopped the monorail for the grand loop around. My Grammy and Grampa like the monorail as much as I do, so this was a special treat for them. We saw them setting up the Magic Kingdom for Grad Nite, and saw a bride and groom boarding the monorail at the Contemporary. When we returned to the Poly we hopped in the cars and headed back to the Lodge. We took a wrong turn though, and ended up in the MK parking lot, so it took a little longer than it should have to get back. Because of this, we actually saw the glow in the sky from the shuttle that lifted off that evening. Ill admit, when I first saw that my first reaction was to think that something had gone terribly wrong on a plane, but when there was no breaking news thing I realized a shuttle must have lifted off, which was confirmed when we watched the news the next morning. Once we got back to the villa we took Grampa on a tour, stopping to watch the Electrical Water Pageant, and to show him that awesome lobby. After that we went back to the villa, played cribbage, than went to sleep, intending to go to the Magic Kingdom in the morning.
