Cast: Me (25), DH (Jeff, 29), My parents (Mom & Dad 48 & 52) and my brother (Andy, 21)
This is the third trip for DH & I and the first trip for my parents & brother
8/4 Arrival Day
Things didnt start well. I was supposed to get up at 4:30am. Get up, take the dog for a short walk, drink some coffee, and confirm I had packed everything. BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! What? Its 5:15am? I overslept! I jumped out of bed screaming at DH, GET UP- WE HAVE TO GO - I OVERSLEPT over and over. The poor dog was thrown out the back door to do her business while we ran around like crazy people closing our luggage and getting ready. Luckily my parents & brother only live three streets away. We got them in the car by 5:40am and we were off to the Pittsburgh International. We arrived, parked and were at baggage check by about 6:20am. I work with a lot of frequent travelers. They had scared the crap out of me, telling me about long check in lines, long security lines. I was convinced we had to be there very very early. We got through baggage check and security and were in terminal A3 by 6:45am. Did I mention our flight wasnt until 8:35am? Everyone grumbled and went off in search of food and things to amuse them until it was time to board.
Our flight well smoothly (and I now love Southwest) and we landed right on time at MCO and picked up our rental car from National, a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with only 3,000 miles on it! We were off to AKL, which took us about 25 minutes to drive to.
We checked in around 12:00pm. We had two standard rooms booked as we were checking in the cast member assisting us said Complimentary Upgrade to Savannah View. I was ecstatic! Even better was that one of the rooms was available now, so we all went off to the room to put our luggage away and freshen up a bit. The Lodge is absolutely beautiful and all the cast members are very friendly and well informed.
After a trip to the grocery store we decided to head to Downtown Disney to walk around for a bit. It was hot. It was humid. My parents knew it would be like this, I warned them, pleaded to postpone until November or December. Nope, they wanted to go to WDW in August. The complaining began. The conversations went like this:
Mom: Its hot
Dad: Its really hot
Andy: Im so hot
Mom: Wow, is it humid
Dad: Im sweaty already
Andy: Its really sunny here
Dad: Its not this sunny in Pittsburgh
Mom: Im really hot
And so on. This occurred maybe 15 minutes after parking and walking into Marketplace. DH & I gave each other looks that said This is going to be a long 7 days!. We were all starving so we headed to Wolfgang Puck Express for lunch. My mother insisted on waiting until a table opened up inside, in the AC. More complaining commenced regarding the heat, the humidity, and how sunny it was. My brother decided that WDW should just build a huge AC enclosed dome over all of WDW so he didnt have to be hot.
After eating we decided to take a walk through the shops in Marketplace. I will note here that DH is a commando walker. He goes 150 mph at WDW. My parents ..not so much. So we started off with Jeff walking way ahead of everyone, me walking with Andy (who was complaining about the heat) then my mom and dad. Dad kept stopping to look at stuff or take pictures, except he didnt tell anyone. So my mom or I would realize he was gone, yell at everyone to stop so we could find my Dad. After a couple hours we decided to head back to the hotel to freshen up before our 6:30 ressies at Boma. After we got back, my Dad, Jeff & I walked around the resort. My mom and brother took a nap. Because they were tired. Because of, you guessed it, the heat. We were a tad late for our reservations so we didnt get seated until close to 7:00pm. To be honest, I wasnt that impressed with Boma. Nothing seemed very exotic to me and I doubt I will ever eat here again. Everything I tried was lukewarm since it was sitting under a heat lamp.
After dinner we decided to head over to Epcot since it was EMH evening. I know everyone has said the EMH are terrible, but I didnt think it was bad at all. It was raining (which helped w/ the crowds, I know) so we threw on our ponchos and headed over. Soarin had a 90 minute wait, but we walked onto Mission: Space, Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, El Rio Del Tempo and Maelstrom. Test Track was shut down due to rain. We also had some pastries in Norway, which was a fun way to end the night at the parks. My parents and brother were totally wiped out and finally understanding all my squawking about how much walking you had to do and how big and spread out the parks are. We headed back to the hotel and sat out on the balcony for awhile and watched the animals before going to bed.
