Parks aren't too bad...(trip so far report)

At least from what I can see. We went to Animal Kingdom on Thursday and didn't even need our FP's. Pretty much did what we wanted when we wanted. Longest wait I saw was 30 minutes for the Safari except for the Rapids ride which was ridiculous at 70. Not even the best version of a "Rapids" attraction. We just watched the fireworks later that evening at MK so we didn't even use a FP on Day one. Thank you Robo for the suggestion of watching outside of MK. Your map was a tremendous help last night.

Magic Kingdom as always is the most populated park. I'm staying at Art of Animation and the bus line is almost full except for the last two hours the park is open. Disney did a great job rolling the buses in this morning though. There was zero wait to get a bus before rope drop other than unload and load times. This was busier than when I came in Feb 2010 by a bit but not quite Easter Week crowds. I was trying to explain to some of the people with me on the trip today that 50 minutes for Splash Mountain was not a bad time. Easter week whatever year the Animal Kingdom Preview pass occured I waited an hour and 45 minutes in a stand-by line that stated 70 minutes. We FP'ed Space Mountain, Littler Mermaid, and Splash Mountain. No problems and no waits in the FP lines. Everything else we rode was 5 to 10 minutes. I was surprised to see HM and POTC both in the 30's. Those usually are 20 or less rides. Though those times may have been off (I'll explain later) we got tired and headed back for a wee rest.

We moved over to Epcot for the EMH hours and that was a decent call. Epcot was nowhere near as full as MK. Test Track and Soarin' had the longest waits which continually fluctuated between 20 to 50 and sometimes you'd see a 60. Most things were walk on except those two attractions. I skipped them both as I have a rope drop plan for them but I got the rest of the attractions in. All and all a good day.

BTW I don't know how much I trust these wait times on attractions that continuously load. We got on Spaceship Earth with a stand-by of 25 minutes and were on the ride in 5. Crowds weren't to bad attitude wise today. Met a few nice people in the parks and had nice conversations with them. The CM's have been doing a great job. I don't know if there is some kind of push but they seemed to be a lot more interactive than I've seen in the past. I saw a CM handle a lost kid today and it was quite amazing how well he handled that. Hats off to him. She was visibly upset and he calmed her, got the information he needed from her and hopefully found the parents. Didn't see that part.

The food has been right nice. Sometimes that can be a mixed bag at Disney and usually depends on the cook or preparer. We ate at the flaming barbecue place on Thursday and I had about the best darn BBQ sandwich I've ever had. Then I had a chicken sandwich and art of animation that evening and I don't know what they had on it but it was black beans and some kind of sauce. I enjoyed that as well. Everything has been cooked well, tasted great, and settled well on the stomach. So far I'm having an awesome time and trying to learn FP+ but I'm not hating it so far. I think once we can reset it ourselves between parks and a couple of other tweaks are made FP+ will work just fine.

I hope you fellow DIS members that are in the parks are also enjoying your stay and receiving a bit of the magic that makes this place special. I'll keep you up to date on the rest of my trip and how the weekend crowds are.

Sounds like you are have a wonderful time! Great report; thanks a bunch. Looking forward to the rest!

I suspect you're right about the wait times for things like HM/Pirates being off. Rode pirates yesterday, claimed to be a 20 min wait, was nothing like it. Rode LM the other day with no FP, said 20, was a walk on.

I think they're exaggerating the wait times to get people to use FP on them.

Longer posted wait time with a shorter actual wait = happy guest

Shorter posted time but a longer actual wait = unhappy guest

I always ask my husband when ever he tells me something will take a certain time, "Disney time or actual time", as we generally found the wait shorter than the listed time.

Why do trip reports keep ending up in the general board instead of the trip report board?

I just want to say that I like to see this type of report on THIS board. I never read the trip report board, because I don't have the time or inclination to read through 80 page life stories. I do, however, like to see current park statuses. To the original poster, thanks for the update!
