Parking with a ECV

We're heading to Disney next month, and my mom broke her foot. She's renting an ECV offsite so she can get around without putting too much strain on her foot.

We're staying offsite, so driving in every day. She called and one of the CM said some parks have drop-off areas so we could drop her and her scooter off and the rest of us park and take the tram up to meet her, but said some parks don't.

How does this work? She doesn't qualify for a handicapped parking pass, and we can't have her tooling off on her own through the parking lots.

Thanks!

I am not sure but when you get to the park where you pay I would just let that cast member know that your mom need to be dropped off and they should be able to direct you where you need to go. I think it also might depend on the time of day you are getting to the park might do things a little different

1) ALL PARKS have a "drop off area".
. . . you drive to the toll booth
. . . inform the CM you are "dropping off"
. . . you follow the designated colored lien to the drop-off area
. . . discharge your mother and ECV
. . . follow the colored line out
2) Now, just re-enter the toll booth as normal and park
3) At the end of the day,
. . . take the tram and retrieve your car
. . . drive out (or drive directly to drop-off area if at DHS-EP-AK)
. . . return through toll booth (for MK)
. . . let them know you are picking-up
. . . follow the line to the drop-off area
. . . load the mother and go back to hotel

You can get a temporary Handicap parking pass from your local government. So you can park in the Handicap parking lot

Alas,
. . . at MK, Handicap Parking is terrible for non-handicapped people, with a LONG walk *
. . . at Epcot, the Handicap area is large, so walking can be long for non-handicapped folks
. . . the Handicap areas at DHS and AK frequently fill up and only the main lot is available *

* The walk is far longer than going to the tram from your car.

Other than at MK, I would probably just park as you enter and then have your mom drive the ECV to the entrance. Everyone else can either take the tram or walk. If you plan to get there early, then you should be close enough that it is not that far of a walk.

Our state still requires that a Dr authorize the need even for a temporary HC hang tag. It's never something you can get on you own....at least here.

I understand that these are long walks, but are they so long that it becomes worthwhile to enter the toll booth, drive all the way around and back out, then enter the toll booth again to park? No wonder people with placards prefer to valet at nearby hotels.

Really this is only an issue at MK. The walk from the HA parking area can be long if you are out farther in the lane, and includes a incline to got to TTC. I was with my sister when using HA there and luckily she was using an ECV, so I was the only one walking. I was okay with it, but it was long. If she had been using her rollator, we would have just parked in the regular lot and used the parking tram. If she had been in her wheelchair, we would have done valet at a resort.

If we had someone that could stay with her then, I would have entered from Vista Blvd, to avoid the parking booths the first time and drop off my parents and sister. Then I would have went around and entered the from the booths and parked the car. Since the do not move quick and get distracted, I probably would have easily met up with them not long after they entered MK.

This sounds like it might be a better option, but with the placard I understand that valet parking is free (plus tip). Would it be easiest to valet at the Contemporary and walk from there?

Parking at CR would save you having to take other transportation to MK.

No need to go around Vista Blvd. Lot hopping and In-and-out are free.

Yes, but depending on where you are coming from offsite, it can be just as quick to go Vista. I tend to do this, even when I stay onsite and want to go to one of the resorts for a meal.

This is the best and easiest way to do it. Just folow your state's DOT procedures and get the temp card asap

Yes. All the parking lots do have drop off points.

for people who do not have an ECV, the shortest walking distance will be to park in the regular lot and use the trams.
If she has an ECV, the walk for her won't matter because she will be riding the ECV.
I would agree that the handicapped lots at the Studio and AK are small and fill up quickly. That won't be an issue if you are arriving close to park opening.

You can get the forms online in most states and fill it out or some doctor's offices have them.
There is a portion the doctor must fill out and sign in every state, whether for temporary or permanent handicapped parking. The doctor's part verifies that the person does have a qualifying handicap.

If you don't have a handicapped pRking permit, you can tell each CM you come to that you have an ECV and don't have a handicapped parking permit. They will direct you where to park. If you see any parking spots with blue paint, those are designated handicapped parking spots. Don't park in those unless you have a handicapped parking permit.
