I've not heard good things about the Blue Deck at DTW (hard to find shuttle, etc.), so we're probably going to park off-site. Any pro's/con's to any of the off-site lots? We've never flown out of Detroit before. I'm finding listsings for Qwik Park, US Park, Airlines Parking and Park-N-Go. Any suggestions?

All of the off-site parking at DTW is in the same general vicinity (north of I-94 on or around Merriman Road). They all seem to have frequent shuttles to all three terminals. Qwik Park calculates hourly and is up to 9.50 per day and $55 per week. US Park is also hourly and is up to 9.25 per day and $55 per week. Park-N-Go is $7.50 per day. My family has used a couple of those lots in past years, but I can't recall which ones. I believe that most, if not all, of the off-site lots offer coupons on their websites.

It is kind of odd that the Big Blue Deck is less expensive than the off-site lots. I've used it for my last two flights out of Metro. Parking in it is convenient for the Smith and Berry terminals, but not so great for the McNamara terminal. The main thing to remember with the BBD is that the Smith terminal is at the south end of the deck, shuttles pick up and drop off in specific locations on the first and third floors, and just because there's a sign saying "elevator out of order" it doesn't necessarily mean that both elevators in that bank are out of order. That last point was kind of frustrating last month!

The biggest benefit of the off-site lots is the shuttles. The drivers usually watch where you park so they can pick you up immediately and will wait until you're in your car with the engine running before they consider you officially dropped off. I think it all comes down to cost savings vs. better shuttles.

Hi from Monroe - about 30 south of the airport. My flight leaves very early (6:55 am) in Dec. I'm going to call a local taxi service and see how much it would cost. otherwise I will have to find some sucker (probably a relative0 to get up early and drive me. this is my first solo trip. when are you going op? :goodvibes

The Big Blue Deck can be a good place to park, but it depends what airline you are using and also the time of year. I would not recommend it for a busy time (Easter, Xmas, etc.). If you are flying Spirit, you can park on the main/upper level and walk right into the Spirit terminal thru a covered walkway.
We tend to use U.S. Park located on Middlebelt. Their drivers are efficient and the rates are good. You can go on their website and get a coupon. They also give discounts if you have AAA, AARP, etc. Also, on the SPIRIT website you can click on a link for Parking at DTW -- I think they will give you a discount for Airline Parking. They are all good. You might also find coupons in the Sunday travel section of the Detroit papers.

I have found a few online coupons for the various lots. We are flying NWA this weekend. I had a friend have horrible wait times on the BBD (had to call for a shuttle - then it arrived and people just wlkaed right up and pushed in front of those who had been waiting, etc.)

Thanks for the info!
