We have never rented a car before so really aren't sure how this works. Does everyone staying on site receive a parking pass whether you have a vehicle or not? We are staying at bay lake tower. Also do they check your member Id when you check in at parks or resorts. I'm also wondering if we don't rent a car can we give our parking pass to friends staying offsite? Thanks in advance.

When you pull into the gate and tell them you're checking in, they'll give you a parking pass. Whether it's a rental vehicle or your own, doesn't matter. But no, you are not supposed to give your pass to people staying offsite for them to park there. That's for your vehicle. Especially at BLT, because parking is a problem there already.

I've never needed to show my member ID to check in anywhere. I've only had to show my drivers license. You don't have to be a member, your name just has to match the name on the reservation.

I agree with AmyB. Further, when you do check in at the gate, they will check your ID before giving you a vehicle pass to ensure that the pass matches the person. Beyond that, as mentioned, you will not need your ID for either room check-in or entering the parks. However, as being a DVC member gives you a 10% discount for some restaurants (if you aren't already on some dining plan), you might need to show your member ID to receive that perk. I've had times when I had to produce an ID and other times when they've given me the discount without checking. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Sorry I should have been more specific. I was thinking that with the parking permit they could park at the 4 theme parks for free rather than spending the 14 or 15 dollars per day. Is this do able or do I need to show them at the resort that I have a car?

If I understand you correctly, you are asking us if it's ok to give your pass to your friend so they can benefit from the perks of resort staying guests even though they're not staying at the resorts.

Do I get that right? Even if you can technically do it, I wouldn't condone anyone breaking the rules. They want resort perks? Stay at the resort.

Next thing you'll be asking is if they can poolhop with you.

Parking passes are for guests staying at the resort, not for someone offsite that you want to slip in. Please don't even think about it.

If you don't rent a car, then I assume you'll be arriving via DME or a taxi. In that case, you won't pass through the gate shack and generally won't receive a parking pass. On occasion, we have not gotten a parking permit until we physically checked in at the customer service desk in the resort. If that happens to be your case, and you have no car, they won't know since they don't verify it. However, as others have said, parking passes are designed as a benefit for staying onsite in a Disney resort and are meant only for those guests. Allowing anyone else to use the pass is an abuse of the system. As previous posters have asked, please don't use them in this manner. :) Best wishes for a magical trip! :thumbsup2

I get so frustrated that so many people are looking to cheat the system.

I don't see the harm there. They have so many spots set aside for us resort guests to park. If I don't personally have a car why not let someone else use it? Would it be more acceptable if they picked me up and we then went to the park together?

I got asked for ID every time I used my DVC discount . I thought it was annoying that the room key isn't a good form of ID but I understand cause if you loose the card and room key someone could charge up your bill .

They don't have any spots set aside for resort guests at the theme parks- they simply allow resort guests to park there using there resort parking pass. People cheating the system like this causes the rise in prices for all of us so it depends on how you feel about that. They should not be asked about it when parking but on occasion a parking attendant may ask them something when they are using it. Legally it is not allowed but you will most likely not be caught if you choose to do it- the biggest consequence may be additional and faster rises in prices on everything. If you do not however drive into BLT they will not offer you a parking pass.

That you don't see the harm is a problem in and of itself. It is unethical and dishonest at the least. As stated by PPs there is not a space reserved for your use at each theme park for them to use.
Misuse of the system results in price increases and cut back on priveleges for all.
Please rethink your position.

Not seeing any harm is your prerogative. You have asked a question, and we have answered you that what you are thinking of doing is an abuse of the system.

What you choose to do is your call. But please don't ask us to condone it or be "ok" with it.

When you check in at the resort you will be asked if you have a vehicle. If you do, they will provide a resort parking pass that will get you thru the front gate and into the Theme Park parking lots.

You could put your friends on your reservation and they can get the parking pass as well as room keys to your villa.

You will not need to show your DVC ID at arrival ( but will be asked for photo ID) or at Theme Parks unless you are trying to get a DVC discount.

Enjoy your stay.

Thank you doc. That will work out perfectly. Ill will put them on my reservation and everything will be above board. This was what I was looking by posting on the dis. Helpful information. Something many posters have forgotten all about. Seems people are getting more and more negative. I guess to each their own. Thank you again. Much appreciated.

Onsite parking passes are perks of staying onsite. People who legitimately deserve those perks are paying a premium for staying onsite, whether they are staying in a deluxe or value resort, or DVC.

IMHO, giving a parking pass to anyone who is not staying onsite is finding a semi-clever way (not really that hard to figure out) to circumvent Disney rules. Frequent visitors to Disney, and especially DVC owners, pay the price for that abuse.

The last time we stayed at OKW, we had some friends staying offsite who wanted to visit us. I asked at the desk how to do that within the rules, and was given an extra parking pass for them -- NOT so they could park free, but so they could visit us at OKW.

I explained the difference to them, and they respected the rules and PAID the $14 per day for parking. (They're not cheap people.)

If you are getting the DDP you will have to add them on that also if you put them on your reservation. You also have to have the space available to do it so you don't go over the number of people allowed in your room.

How about the people who park for free at downtown Disney and then hop onto busses to get to different resorts?

There is no charge to park at different resorts if you are going to dine there so guess Disney might not care if you park at DTD to do that and then possibly return to DTD and spend some money there.
The following picture was taken at the Marketplace bus stop. Policy might be different now --

First, you asked our opinions, and a few of us offered politely how we thought you were, to put it as one pp does, circumventing the system. If that is "negative" posting, then so be it. Second, if you were looking for someone to justify your circumvention, then you have that also, and you may call it "helpful information" if you wish. Third, you may justify your actions however you wish and name it "to each their own." In the end, the fact is that the parking permits are intended for those who stay onsite not for friends who come to visit. Whether or not others follow the rules is not germane to this discussion, only how you choose to follow--or not follow--the rules. If you believe it valid to put someone's name on the reservation who isn't actually staying there, then you don't need either our opinion or us condoning your actions, making your original post moot.
