DH and I were considering taking a drive up to the Rainforest Cafe at the Menlo Park Mall (Edison, NJ)... one thing turned into the next, and now we're thinking about driving *a little* further and taking in a Broadway show:scratchin . Neither of us have ever driven ourselves to the city, and were wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in the area to park (we're thinking of seeing Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam...)?? I'm sure it's quite expensive... but any prices, names of parking lots, or websites would be very much appreciated! Thanks!!

There is no shortage of parking garages-they are on every street--we just parked on 47th for Beauty and the Beast yesterday-Central Parking I guess it was.
$40 for 2 hours up to 24 hours

Weve never planned-we just park wherever, oh I just asked DH, he walks past Mary Poppins theater every day to go to work and he said there is a garage on 41st right behind the theater.

Anything in that Broadway/midtown Manhattan area is going to be expensive.

Why not take the train in from New Jersey?

If you're doing it on a weekend drive to Metro Park and take the train into the city. It'll be so much easier.

Try searching for new york city parking on google. There are sites that compare rates between garages.

I think that some of the garages might run theater specials, too.

nawh..... if you go on the w/end, it's cheap and easy to park in mid-town. :drive: I always park at the Hippodrome Garage. It's on 50 West 44th Street (between 6th & 5th Ave). You can park all day for $10. If you enter after 6pm during the week, it's cheap too. But I don't remember the amount.
I drive down the West Side Highway, get off at 44th St, then follow it all the way straight down. It's on the right hand side (you'll see a little diner called the Red Flame accross the street).

There # is 1-888-parkfast or try parkfast.com

They have other locations accross the city.

If you are driving from Edison to NYC, there is a terrific parking garage right at the exit from the Lincoln Tunnel. When you exit the Lincoln, follow the signs towards 42nd Street. The exit ramp curves around and puts you at a 'T' intersection with 42nd. At that traffic light, right in front of you (don't turn either left or right), is the entrance to the Manhattan Towers Parking Garage. It is right on the north side of 42nd Street between 10th and 11th streets. Not only are their weekend rates very reasonable but.........you can walk to the New Amsterdam from there! We've done it many times. Hope this helps!

Just an FYI, when I looked for tickets for Mary Poppins there was nothing available until May. Have you tried yet?
I highly recommend taking the ferry from Weehawken, NJ.

If you're looking to park super cheap, you can park for free up near our apartment on the UWS in the 90s-110's. It's mostly residential, so there's no shortage of free parking on Riverside Drive. You might have to troll for about 15 minutes, but I guarantee you'll find a spot. Then, you can walk a couple blocks and hop on the 1 train at Broadway and 110th, 103rd, or 96th and down to Times Square. It's about a 15 minute ride on the subway.

I was going to recommend the Weehawken Ferry - but others beat me to it. If you do want to drive in on a weekend, I highly recommend the parking lot above the Port Authority. It's cuts out all your driving in Manhattan. In particular, when you are leaving, you have a direct lane into the Lincoln Tunnel. I can't remember the exact price, but I think it's in the $20-25 range for a Broadway show.

i'll second the metropark suggestion. it's very close and you can leave your car there for the weekend. it costs $5 a day to park, unlike $5 an hour (or whatever ny parking is now). round trip fare is $12.50.
