Parking at Portola Redwoods

Looking for any information on how safe cars are at Portola Redwoods day use parking. I assume if we park in a paid lot, we'll be safe because someone will likely be making sure everyone paid, but my daughter is concerned about me leaving my luggage in the car. I'm looking at going there directly from SFO and hoping to just throw a blanket or something over the suitcase. There won't be anything valuable in the suitcase, but dealing with a broken window would really be a drag.
