Parking at Port of Miami questions

Just wondering anyone's experience parking at the port of Miami. We will be there 2/12/16. After a more than difficult parking situation at the port of San Diego recently I need to make sure to prepare ahead of time for this next trip. Is there a large parking garage where you can just walk to the check in area with your luggage, or do you have to take a shuttle? (I try to avoid shuttles when I can. Difficult with 2 strollers etc...)

I believe I read parking is $20/night. Can I make reservations ahead of time, so I know I will get parking?
Are there better alternatives in the area?
Thank you in advance!

Parking is very easy, we've never had to reserve so I don't know if you can. It's probably your best bet and most cost effective. The port is in downtown Miami and parking is expensive and limited in Downtown. Not to mention it would be a pain to get your car and then come back to get your people and luggage

We parked at terminal C last month for NCL. Parked in the structure at the port. We dropped our checked bags curb side, parked, & walked in the terminal. The parking ticket says on it to take it with you. When the cruise was over we walked to the structure, paid our fee at an automated kiosk, loaded the Tahoe, and left. You can pay your parking at a booth at the exit if needed. Parking for a 7-night cruise was $140. We had a bad enough experience with off-site parking in PC that we shy away from it. Plus, on long trips we usually carry certain items that are most definitely not allowed on a cruise that have to stay behind but give us concern about anyone else parking our vehicle. Miami port parking was great.

Is it best to drop the luggage prior to parking or should we just take it with us as we walk over from the parking garage?
Thanks!

The parking garage is really close. We walked but we didn't have a ton of luggage. The lot we were in was literally across the street and a little to the right of the Disney terminal only 2 checked bags and 2 carry ons. If you have a lot, you might want to drop off a person with the bags and then park.
Everything I read prior to going to Miami said do not for any reason park anywhere else other than the port lot. The other lots were not 100% safe.
It was worth the convenience of walking 2 min to the port and being in secure, covered parking. Payment out was easy and they take CC's.

We parked at G for Disney. Very easy. No shuttles. You can drop your luggage at the Disney terminal and then go park. That's what we did and it was much easier than walking with tons of bags.
