Parking at Poly and taking tram to MK

You really called and wasted your time and the time of CMs for this? :rotfl:I'm thinking the term "get a life" pertains here...

Thats a little harsh. Most people I know would say spending so much time as we do on these boards is a waste of time. Sometimes I have to agree I'm wasting my time and should be doing something more productive! Nothing wrong with someone calling about a grey area.

:thumbsup2 ITA!!

What's grey about following the rules? I still think it is too funny. It wasn't just wasting her time, but the time of others.

Anyone who is too cheap to pay for parking is just too pitiful, imo.

More name calling, oh well. Paying for valet and tipping cost more than paying for parking. Its a convenience issue for those also dining at the resort to go ahead and monorail over. Some think its bad, I do not see the harm, thats about it.

Even though we've kinda gotten off topic, the bottom line here is pretty straight forward.
Here's what happened to me:

In 2004 or 3, OR whatever year they instituted the podium check in for CG, I wanted to get in one last visit to the MK, JUST A COUPLE OF RIDES. I told the security cast member I was dining at the resort and valet parked. Took the monorail to the MK, had a great time, took the monorail back to the CR and wound up paying about 30 bucks for parking including tip. Yeah I was so embarased I tipped the guy. I FOUGHT THE LAW... :rotfl:

Not name calling, just giving my opinion re. a specific behavior or behavior pattern...

The OP never mentioned valet parking, as far as I saw. That was stated by others on the thread.

Valet parking, is for people using the services of the facility...not a free for all, last I knew... still pathetic.

I also think it is rather funny that the OP has 10 posts, and has already hit 2 hot topic areas. popcorn::

Well considering I thought this question was a good thing to get cleared up seeing that I am planning a conference on property and have some people staying off property I don't feel I wasted anyones time but hey thanks for showing you care!

I don't think they were wasting anyones time. If I recall the CM is hired to help, assist and answer any questions the guest might have.

FTR, I have parked at the Poly, had supper then took the monorail to MK for Extra hours. We were staying at ASM and we asked the guard if this was alright and he said no problem. We were to park in the guest check in lot (not sure of the name). We also parked at the YC or BC (again, can't remember) and took the boat to International gateway in Epc. Again, there wasn't a problem.
I think you're more apt to "get away" with it if you are staying at a WDW resort than if you were staying offsite. We plan of doing it again in Nov, when we have breakfast or supper at a monorail resort. I believe in off peak season I'm not taking another guests parking spot. It not that crowded there.

Valet is one thing, fine...but to park in the regular guest parking lot to eat and then head to MK all day is so selfish and inconsiderate to those who pay to stay at the monorail resorts. There are signs as you enter saying that the CR parking lot is NOT for MK parking.

I've stayed at CR a few times and every single time we have to circle the parking lot trying to find a spot or pull over to the side to wait awhile and hope someone would eventually leave. I refuse to do valet parking because I shouldn't have to; I should be able to find a self-parking spot.

Once while we were circling the parking lot, we saw a family get out of their car, put their Santa hats on and walk to MK for MVMCP. :furious:

October and December (times that we've stayed at CR) are off season so that isn't a valid arguement that since it's off season you can break the rules and park in the parking lot over the 3 hour limit.

I've read these thread a million times. I realize I'm not going to change anyone's mind. They're going to follow the rules they 'want' to follow and "if Disney doesn't enfoce it then I can keep doing it", but I can certainly voice my opinion on the subject.

:thumbsup2 You are very welcome... I'm certain the CMs love having to answer those calls..."Hi, I was wondering if I could cheat the system and park illegally for awhile..."

Again...are you parking in the guest check in lot? No, you're not. If I ask a guard and he says it is ok then I am NOT breaking a rule! I do not park at CR except for breakfast only and only in the area the guard told me to because I know parking is limited there. However, I've seen tons of empty spots at Poly in the area designated to me by the guard. Get po'd if you want not gonna change my way of doing things which has been ok with Disney thus far.

Well they better love doing it... We are paying them enough to answer a whole lot more then something like this. Like I said before, this is something I see happening when we have our event at the CR... We have rooms at 4 resorts on property and I know of two groups staying off site so I can definately see this happening. But hey forgive me... next time I will check with you to make sure its ok to not only do my work but if its ok to post something.

I'll assume you are talking to me and reply.

Yes, I do park in that lot when I check in and then I'm suppose to move after I've checked in. That's what its for.

There's a sign right at the entrance to the parking lot that differs from what that particular CM told you you could do but whatever.

Yep, I'll get po'd when I'm staying at the CR and I can't find a spot since I know I probably can't find a spot because of how many people will do what they want regardless of how it affects others.

Did you read my whole post?? I also said: "I realize I'm not going to change anyone's mind. They're going to follow the rules they 'want' to follow and "if Disney doesn't enfoce it then I can keep doing it", but I can certainly voice my opinion on the subject."

I voiced my opinion (and experience at CR), as you did; I never set out to change your 'way of doing things'. :teeth:

Beattyfamily..I did read your post. As I said CR parking is slim at best and I wouldn't dream of hogging a space there. I know you weren't trying to change my or anyone's mind nor was I trying to change yours...everyone has different ways of thinking. I still believe I did nothing wrong when told I could park there and wander over to the park. I even remember at the YC the guard asking us if we were going to Epc and when we told him we were he told us to have a good time. :confused3
Oh well, no sense getting bent out of shape about it I guess. Have a good day! :sunny:

We are staying offsite for the first time, and are renting a car. Does it make more sense to drive directly to MK, or drive and park at the Poly resort and take the monorail over?

You can't park directly at the Magic Kingdom. You would have to park at the Ticket and Transportation Center. This is DIRECTLY next to the Polynesian. As has been said at length - parking at the Polynesian is for guests of that resort. Besides, if you take the monorail from the Polynesian, it will probably take you twice as long to get to the Magic Kingdom. First of all, because you'd have to walk to the great ceremonial house, and then the monorail stops for a good few moments at the Polynesian as well as the Grand Floridian. If you just take the tram, the monorail will go directly from the Ticket and Transportation Center to the Magic Kingdom. Not to mention, when you leave, you will have to wait substantially longer for a monorail to get back to the Polynesian.

If we are not staying at a disney resort, are we allowed to use the monorail?

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely. In fact, as I said just above - you HAVE to use the monorail. :)

As a ticket holder, you're entitled to use ALL Disney transportation including the monorails, boats, trams, and busses.

Have a fantastic trip!

And for the rest of you - there's far too much name calling and a rude tone pervading this thread. Cool it, please.

I think that the buses also go straight to MK (from non-MK resorts). You can also take a ferry from the TTC. Just thought I would add this, because you said that you have to use the monorail.
