Parking at Poly and taking tram to MK

We are staying offsite for the first time, and are renting a car. Does it make more sense to drive directly to MK, or drive and park at the Poly resort and take the monorail over?

If we are not staying at a disney resort, are we allowed to use the monorail?

Yes you are allowed to take the monorail but your aren't allowed to park at the Poly. Please park at the TTC, then take the monorail or boat over to the MK. The Poly parking is for guests of that resort only.

You can park at the TTC and take the resort monorail to the Contemporary if you plan on visiting the parks after your meal.

If you are only going to Chef Mickey's then you can park at the Contemporary for 3 hours.

You can use the monorail, but you unfortunately are not supposed to use resort parking unless you are a guest. you are allowed 2-hr complementary parking if you are dining at a resort. There is a guardhouse at the entrance to the resort where a security cast member will greet you. If you are checking in they will examine ID and compare it to the daily list. If you are dining at the resort they will give you a temporary pass for your car window.

I think that if you valet park, they don't hassle you over how many hours you take to eat and knock around the resort. But you cannot park and travel to MK from a monorail resort. Use the Ticket and Transportation Center.

Only if you want your car towed... For your own sake, you would be better off to part at the TTC..

This isn't written anywhere and as long as the valet gets their tip and the resort gets the valet fee and the restaurant gets your business, feel free to valet and monorail to parks. The MYW ticket or whatever you are using to enter the park allows you access to Disney transportation. I have done this many times, no one has asked to see anything. I have never heard of a valet parking lot filling and the valet spots are not taking parking spots away from hotel guests so its a win-win. You may get flack for it here because it just seems sneaky to some people who will use the "what if everybody did that" argument. It has NOT become used enough to become a problem for the resorts to solve or some sort of sign would have been posted. As long as you are actually dining at the resort, it passes my morality threshold.

Glad not following the rules passes your "morality threshold". Valet lots can and DO fill, so just because YOU haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Those lots are strictly for resort guests and, for the limit of 3 hours, guests dining at the resort. That's it.

Whenever we go to the MK,we make an ADR at The Poly and then we valet park. To me it is worth the 2 dollar tip not to have to deal with the MK parking lot. It is free to us because we aew DDE card holders.

Hmmmm, wonder why the guard asks me if I'm going to "park or valet" if valet isn't an option for guests outside the resort? Lets see, there were rules about mugs and MYW dining credits and bringing food inside the park posted on the website, at the resorts and in front of the parks. I have never seen this "rule" you may have made up and many of us have used valet for convenience inside and outside of the 3 hour limit. Parking at the resorts in the spaces for guests and visitors is limited to 3 hours for visitors and even that is not enforce sometimes as they don't hand you a stamped slip when they are not enforcing it. I have never seen anything about a time limit on valet but you are welcome to scour the website and post a link to prove me wrong. I bet most resort guests would prefer visitors using valet and not taking up their spots, even within the 3 hour limit, so they can more easily park.

To the OP...... OK, just in case you might actually be filling up the valet spots and the overflow valet spots........ please park at TTC if you are going July 4th or Christmas week. Otherwise, Disney will be happy to accept the valet fee and your dining charges in exchange for some added convenience for you.

This forum doesn't provide official rules from Disney even though the morality police might like to think so. There would be a link to the Disney website by now if it were an actual rule spelled out somewhere. Disney spells out any rule they care about. They even spell out some they don't actually care about like bringing food into the park. I've never seen a post about someone having valet parking issues or a time limit. Valet has no time limit. MYW tickets include transportation. There is nothing in print saying you can't do it and it IS done by many guests so it is, in practice, allowed. If it changes there will be posts "Caution, can no longer valet for as long as you'd like." If you really think valet is just for resort guests, take your parking pass off the dash and ask the guard if you can valet. He'll say yes and point you to the valets waiting for your business.

Note: No resort guests were harmed in this valet parking incident.

I don't understand why you are getting so upset about this. If you want to pay for parking and valet parking that seems awful expensive so you don't have to ride the tram.

The rule is that the monorail resorts are for the guests and for those dining at a resort restaurant. It isn't for parking and going off to a theme park all day.

If you want to valet what's the problem?

I just got off the phone with the front desk at CR and GF and told them I had someone coming from off property to meet me for breakfast and asked if they could park in the valet parking. I was told that this would be fine but there was a three hour limit for guest not in the hotel. After talking a bit longer the person at CR said well it's not like it gets policed that often but we'd prefer the space be used by resort guests. The person at the GF insisted it was a 3 hour limit for anyone not staying on property.

If Disney doesn't even give out straight answers this discussion will never be resolved so why don't we all just do whatever we do or have done. If I am comfortable one way or the other then that is all that matters right?

It would seem to me that you can park at TTC and still be very close to the Poly- it is barely a 5 minute walk to the Great Ceremonial House from the TTC (closer than some of the parking designated for the Poly guests!). You can get on the monorail from there and get to MK. You will pay to park at the TTC, but it costs about the same as valet parking at the resort, and you won't have to worry about the "legality" of parking in the resort lot.

Any paying guest of WDW can ride the monorail, busses, or any other WDW transportation.

This is one of those gray areas with a debate that could rage forever. However, the original question had nothing to do with could I valet park for the entire day. The original question was simply does it make more sense to park at the Poly or go straight to MK and I believe the answer to that one is simple. It makes more sense to just park at TTC and make your way to the MK. As for where to park to eat at Chef Mickey's, you could either park at the Contemporary for the time period alloted by Disney or, if you are visiting the MK or Epcot on the day you are going to Chef Mickey's, park at whichever park you are visiting and take the resort monorail to the Contemporary.

You really called and wasted your time and the time of CMs for this? I'm thinking the term "get a life" pertains here...
