Parking at NY Port

Really Cabanas is closed? I had never heard that, but I've never gone there for dinner so I'm not really the one to ask. Other dinner options if Cabanas is closed are the stations around the pool (hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, fries, pizza, sandwiches and fruit platters) or room service (which is free but the menu is pretty limited), or if you are adults you can try to make a dinner reservation late at Palo. (or the adults can do Palo and the kids can be in the club)

My brother who lives on Long Island suggests that when the cruise is over and if your are looking for a cab back to Penn Station, to walk a block or so away from the port and grab a cab there. Since the port will be crowded w/ people looking for a cab right there.

I may be mistaken but I thought I read Cabanas was closed for dinner on embarkation day. I hope I'm wrong!!

Is the a terminal for parking, operated by the cruise line?

No. We always park directly at the terminal if we are doing a round-trip because, for us, we love the convenience of walking off the ship and right out to our car. Keep in mind, getting a taxi from the port can be daunting -- we waited in line more than an hour last time before it was finally our turn (for a one-way cruise from Quebec and we were picking up a rental car)! Parking is now $40/day. We arrive by 11 a.m. as it does fill up by the afternoon.

Is it possible to walk to the port?

I've walked to the Intrepid many times, but I've never gone further north and google maps make it seems like it's not easy to get to the cruise ship terminal by foot!!

I thought I was making a good decision by staying within walking distance, but now I'm questioning myself! We're staying at the Holiday Inn express just a block and a half away from the terminal.

If you're only a block and a half away, you should be fine. I think walking from maybe Penn Station with luggage across the roadways may be difficult and far.

Does anyone know if we can park there the night before the cruise? We are going the day before to see Aladdin, but don't want to move the car so I was hoping we could just park at the port on Friday night for a Saturday cruise.

Thanks

Can I ask a food option the first night on a NYC cruise? I do not want to miss sailing out of NYC especially by the freedom tower, statue of liberty, and ellis island. So, with a 4ish sailing, we will not make an early MDR dinner. I have heard cabanas is closed the first night, so where else will there be to eat on the ship for dinner? Thank you for help!

It should NOT take over an hour to go from the port under the bridge. Just be ready for dinner before sailing - or don't stress being all fancy that night.
