My daughter cannot take any kind of car, bus fumes. Can you park somewhere other than a parking garage. We have stayed at animal kingdom lodge and the parking there was fine, out in the open. Does Kidani have an open parking lot somewhere?

Deb.

Yes, there is parking out in the open, as well as, underneath the building.

Yes the do. They have lots in front of the parking garage and a bigger one to the right just brfore pulling into the underground parking.

To a certain extent it will depend on where your room is. The outside parking is more of a south wing (closest to Jambo) possibility. If you get a room that is at the end of the north wing there is only underground parking there -- and you will want to be close to the elevator that is closest to your room. For example, the end rooms of the north wing are more than 1/4 mile from the lobby and if you parked on the south wing side or that outside lot you are just adding significantly more distance to that 1/4 mile.

We had a room on the South Wing (closest to Jambo House) and the parking is essentially outside, although some spots have overhead coverage. Those spots are under the 2nd floor of the building, but even they are out in the open. We parked here everyday and never had an issue with fumes.

Here is a link to a picture of what I'm trying to explain

Thanks for the pic. I understand now. I was thinking it was one of those underground parking garages that had different levels.

Deb.

There is a section of parking that is underground and enclosed, but it's only one level.

There is also parking without any coverage

The outdoor parking area shown in both of these photos is the valet lot. You can tell because the spaces are numbered.

There is some outdoor parking just beyond this area that is for oversized vehicles but the OP could probably park there. There is also some uncovered parking in front of the north wing near the pool area.

We used the under-building lot and even when we parked near the furthest elevator in the north wing (where the under-building lot is completely enclosed) I didn't notice any fumes.

You're right about the numbered spaces being for valet parking, but when we were there in Nov, there was construction going on at the bus stop so the valets were using an open parking lot with no numbered spaces behind the ZaZu section to park cars. Those spots were normal-size and not numbered, so there is some open parking. I couldn't find a picture of it so the picture I linked to was the best I could use to describe the open parking.

I wonder if they will convert part of that valet lot to regular parking at some point now that fewer people are using valet services. When we were there in late January, we never saw more than 10 cars in the valet lot. One of the bell services CMs told me valet parking was down significantly since DVC members lost the free valet perk. It seems a shame to have all those spaces sitting there empty.

It would be nice of them to make good use of the space, especially if they know it's not being used as it was intended.

Kidani has valet parking? I didn't know that. We'll probably use it in March when we have mom with us as she normally parks in handicap parking. I guess I need to request a room close to the lobby for the valet parking to make sense, right?

If you'll be using your car to get to and from the parks, you can request a room close to an elevator and park your own car, saving on the valet fees. We had a room in ZaZu, right next to the elevator, and never parked further than 4 or 5 spaces away from the elevator.

Handicap people don't pay for valet. But if there is an option to be able to park ourselves and be close to an elevator, that would be great. I just want to avoid pushing a wheelchair down really long hallways as we've had to do in the past at Jambo.
